Swimming Upstream: “Does God Approve Of Blogging…Or Not?”

blogging

My entrance into the bologosphere came about in the late summer of 2004. A radio host, Hugh Hewitt, was constantly talking about blogging on his syndicated program.

“Blogging,” I thought. “What’s that?”

Not knowing the answer, I bought a book, did some research and started beating on the keys. Over the years, my writing has evolved, but it has always been from a Christian viewpoint.

After five years, I’m wondering a few things. Does God approve of my blogging? Or yours? Or anyone’s? If so, why? If not, why not?

Swimming Upstream appears at this blog site on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. It’s  a little of this and a little of that, all written  to encourage and exhort believers in their Christian journeys.

  1. God LOVES your blog! and so do I… anything that challenges a reader to dig deeper, whether it’s in their faith or not… we all benefit from knowing who we are at the core. Writing also challenges oneself to look at their environment, notice that there are more than the big 3’s in the room… Me, Myself and I. 3 great people by the way…

To be honest, I’m just suprised that God hasn’t started blogging him (or her) 😉 self!!! or, maybe he has????

  2. Cindy,

    Thanks.

Most of us have no voice in our churches. We sit. We stand up. We sing songs. We give offerings. This is pretty much the sum total of our church experiences.

But inside each one of us is this overwhelming desire to say something. And blogging offers us an outlet for our voices.

  3. Does God approve of conversation?

I think the answer to both is the same. Blogging is a kind of conversation, ongoing between you and the spheres your own sphere of influence collides with. Blogging is a powerful tool to reveal your heart to others, a great way to bear a real and lasting influence. In a world where streetcorner evangelism has lost all power and relational evangelism becomes more and more impossible as churches tend to create more and more inbred of environments, blogging fills a large void.

So, yes, I think God would approve. I think he wants us putting our voices anywhere where the world can be influenced.

  4. I’m really pulling for a yes on the blogging thing. It’s from my heart.

  5. Lindsey and Jane,

Thanks. I wholeheartedly agree with the both of you.

  6. I can’t speak for God but I know I definitely appreciate your blog! A LOT! It’s one that I never want to miss. Thank you for it, Larry. You’re a blessing.

  9. Did God approve of speaking?
Did God approve of writing the words?
Did God then approve of printing the words.
Did God approve………….I think he did!

  10. I also agree that God does approve of our Blogging, just as much as he approves of us sharing with other’s my many other means.Blogging should not be a place for us to be cruel & nasty while claiming to represent our Saviour. We are also to be obeident in our Blogging, giving all honor to God.

  11. we like your blog!

i take blogging as God blogging through me sometimes – i trust that he will speak through me and my life and my words. and that someone will read them and be encouraged and draw near to God and learn from him. i reckon that is your heart too… i reckon God blogs through people who love him and hear his voice :o)

    blessings, fireball
