Prayers for America (11/15/2018)

Everyone needs to make up his or her own mind about today’s America. It’s either the worst of times or the best of times for us Christians. Our decisions on this question will determine our attitudes and actions in the days ahead.

For me, Marine Lt. General Chesty Puller’s statement during the bloody battle of Peleliu summarizes my attitude:

“All right, they’re on our left, they’re on our right, they’re in front of us, they’re behind us…they can’t get away this time.”

My prayer today:

Lord, open the eyes of Christians to show them that they have been chosen by You for such a time as this to win great victories for Your kingdom. (Based on Esther 4:14)

What do you think and has the Lord spoken to you today?

How would you like to fight a war with modern weapons, but no ammunition? Or vice versa?

This is pretty much how the American church is heading into the End-times to fight spiritual battles. The Gentile church is missing its Jewish counterparts and the Messianic church is missing its Gentile counterparts.

Jesus created in Himself one new man from Jew and Gentile believers. This one new man is supposed to be one body reconciled by the cross to God. Then this unified body is supposed to make known the manifold wisdom of God to the principalities and powers in the heavenly places.

My prayer today:

Lord, we ask You to fulfill Your words that You would build Your church and the gates of Hell would not prevail against it. (Based on Matthew 16:18)

Prayers for America (11/8/2018)

If a modern-day Jonah walked through our cities, proclaiming, “Yet forty days and this city will be no more,” would anyone pay attention to him? Would anyone seek the Lord? Would anyone repent?

My prayer today:

Lord, open up the ears of American believers to hear what the Spirit is saying to our nation. (Based on Revelation 2:7)

Two plagues erupted in Nineveh in 765 BC and 759BC. Plus  a total eclipse of the sun occurred on June 15, 763 BC. All of these were considered signs of a divine anger against the Assyrian city.

This may explain why the people of Nineveh were so willing to repent when the prophet Jonah walked through the city in 759 BC, proclaiming, “Yet forty days and Nineveh shall be overthrown.”

At the time, Nineveh was the largest city in Assyria, which was Israel’s hated enemy. The city was impregnable. It had double walls with the inside wall being 100-feet high and 50-feet wide. It had twelve-hundred 200-foot towers spaced along the sixty-mile circumference of the inside wall. Over a hundred-thousand people (maybe as many as five hundred-thousand) lived inside the walls and grew crops there. The city could sustain a military siege almost forever.

How is it that a pagan super-power could listen to the words of a reluctant prophet and had enough spiritual vision to change, but America with all of its churches, Christian TV and radio stations, Bibles and so forth only listens to prophetic voices that scratch its itching ears with teachings it wants to hear?

My prayer today:

Lord, remove the spirit of stupor from the American church so that its eyes can see and its ears can hear what the Spirit is saying to the church. (Based on Romans 11:8)

Central America Migrant Caravan

Honduran immigrants pray in an improvised shelter in Chiquimula, Guatemala, on October 16, 2018. (https://www.theatlantic.com/photo/2018/10/photos-migrant-caravan/573604/)

The thousands of people marching in the migrant caravan heading toward our southern border are probably useful pawns for certain political factions that have an agenda, which we may not all agree with. That’s a fact and can’t be argued.

But even so, each member of the caravan has value in the eyes of God with many of them being our brothers and sisters in Christ.

So, we believers need to be careful how we speak and act on this issue.

My prayer today:

Lord, we look on the migrant caravan and realize our helplessness so we come to You and ask for wisdom for ourselves and for our leaders on how we should speak and act on this issue. (Based on James 1:3)

What do you think and has the Lord spoken to you today?

Prayers for America (10/18/2018)

At the close of the Constitutional Convention in 1787, Benjamin Franklin was asked a question by an onlooker. “Well, Doctor, what do we have – a Republic or a Monarchy?”

Benjamin Franklin replied, “A Republic, if you can keep it.”

As Franklin stated, America was founded as a republic, which is basically a government based on the rule of law. Our U. S. Constitution sets limits on how the elected can govern and the rights of individual citizens and states.

However, as we all know, our system of government has loopholes and gray areas that allows politicians and others to take advantage of the citizenry to advance their own agendas. Why? Because even though our system of government may have been God-inspired, it was still man-made and is subject to the god of this world: Satan.

On the other hand, the Kingdom of God is an absolute monarchy with King Jesus as the head. The subjects in this kingdom are all sons and daughters and members of His royal family. This kingdom has no loop holes or gray areas and is not subject to Satan and his kingdom of darkness. It is an eternal kingdom without end.

So, when voting this year, keep in mind —

But first and most importantly seek (aim at, strive after) His kingdom and His righteousness [His way of doing and being right—the attitude and character of God], and all these things will be given to you also. (Matthew 6:33)

My prayer today:

Lord, remind us Americans that apart from You, we can do nothing. (Based on John 15:5)

On the first Pentecost, a sound came from heaven like a rushing mighty wind, filling the house where one hundred and twenty believers waited for something to happen in Jerusalem. Then, divided tongues of fire sat upon each person.

And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. (Acts 2:4)

The one hundred and twenty believers walked outside, still speaking in tongues. Devout Jews heard these believers and thought they were drunk.

Peter said, “These are not drunk, but this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel:

And it shall come to pass in the last days, says God, that I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh; your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your young men shall see visions, your old men shall dream dreams. And on My menservants and on My maidservants I will pour out My Spirit in those days. (Acts 2:17-18)

What happened at the first Pentecost was only a partial fulfillment of Joel’s prophecy. The Spirit was not poured out on all believers nor did every son and daughter prophesy. It only fell on one hundred and  twenty believers.

Even the Azusa Street Revival and the Charismatic Revival – as great as they seemed at the time – were only partial fulfillments of Joel’s prophecy. The Spirit was not poured out on every believer.

My prayer today:

Lord, help the American church to believe and pray for an outpouring of the Holy Spirit on every believer; thus fulfilling Joel’s prophecy.

“The devil made me do it!” (Flip Wilson)

The recent Justice Brett Kavanaugh and Christine Blasey Ford brouhaha underscores a dismal situation for most American Christians: our lack of spiritual discernment.

So that no advantage would be taken of us by Satan, for we are not ignorant of his schemes. (2 Corinthians 2:11 NASB)

Sadly, we American Christians are ignorant of Satan’s schemes. You see, we allowed the accuser of the brethren (Satan) to manipulate us into being his pawns on social media and elsewhere for dividing the Body of Christ.

Somehow, we have to eventually realize that many of our problems in America are caused by the kingdom of darkness. Our only hope is to follow the King when He leads us so we can advance the Kingdom of God in our nation.

My prayer today:

Lord, open our spiritual eyes so that we can submit to You and then resist the devil. (Based on James 4:7)

“There is no Christian victory or blessing if we refuse to turn away from the things that God hates. Even if it is accepted in the whole social class and system of which you are a part, turn away from it. Even if there is something that has been accepted by our whole generation, turn away from it, if it is evil and wrong and an offense to our holy and righteous Savior. ” (A. W. Tozer)

My prayer today:

Lord, open the eyes of the American Church so we realize that we can’t  serve God and mammon at the same time. (Based on Matthew 6:24)

Prayers for America (10/4/2018)

Do you realize that in the Great Tribulation, which could soon happen, half of the earth’s population will be killed in a forty-two month period of time?

To arrive at this figure:

Check out Revelation 6:4 where we learn that a quarter of the earth’s population will be killed by war, hunger, plagues, and beasts when the fourth seal is opened. Then, check out Revelation 9:15 where we discover one third of mankind that’s left will be killed at the sixth trumpet by an army numbering at least 200 million soldiers.

Simple mathematics: 100% – 25% = 75%

                                          75% – one third of 75% = 50%

60 to 70 million died in World War II, the world’s costliest war in history, but that would be just a drop in the bucket compared to 3.5 to 4 billion killed in the Great Tribulation. Over fifty times as many dead people!

Now, this has nothing to do on with when the rapture takes place: Pre-Tribulation or Post-Tribulation. It has to do with God’s Word. It will happen!

My prayer today:

Lord, send Your Holy Spirit to help Americans to love God with all of our hearts, with all of our minds, with all of our souls, and with all of our strength; and to love our neighbors enough to pray for them. (Based on Mark 12:30-31)
