Prayers for American Christian’s Eyes to be Opened (10/10/2017)

On the one hand, it’s easy to give your life to Jesus. All you have to do is believe in the Lord Jesus Christ as your Savior and you will be eternally saved. This is the best deal any of us will ever receive.

But on the other hand, being His disciple and a true follower require much more of us. He even told us to count the cost ahead of time before making a decision and then gave two illustrations of what He meant:

28 “But don’t begin until you count the cost. For who would begin construction of a building without first calculating the cost to see if there is enough money to finish it? 29 Otherwise, you might complete only the foundation before running out of money, and then everyone would laugh at you. 30 They would say, ‘There’s the person who started that building and couldn’t afford to finish it!’

31 “Or what king would go to war against another king without first sitting down with his counselors to discuss whether his army of 10,000 could defeat the 20,000 soldiers marching against him? 32 And if he can’t, he will send a delegation to discuss terms of peace while the enemy is still far away. (Luke 14:28-32)

My prayer today:

Lord, open the eyes of American Christians to the true costs of being Your disciples, especially about laying our lives down daily, picking up our crosses, and following You. (Based on Luke 9:23)

Prayers for America (10/5/2017)

“When you think it’s too late, be careful that you don’t let that become your excuse for giving up. No one can keep you from success except yourself. When it’s time to shine, be your brightest.” (Deshun Wang)

The star of the above video, Deshun Wang, does not claim to be a Christian, but still we can be inspired by his determination to succeed.

So, if you have a vision from God, one that has not come forth in your life as yet, don’t give up. God is still able to fulfill your vision because:

For the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable [for He does not withdraw what He has given, nor does He change His mind about those to whom He gives His grace or to whom He sends His call]. (Romans 11:29 Amplified Translation)

My prayer today:

Lord, help those of us who have not walked in our callings and visions given to us by You, whether we are sixteen or one hundred years old, to fulfill our divine destinies and redemptive purposes here on earth before we take our last breaths. Help us to no longer settle for excuses of why we can’t succeed, but to be confident that He who has begun a good work in us will complete it. (Based in part on Philippians 1:6)

Prayers for American Christians’ Eyes to be Opened (10/3/2017)

After a while, the grief lifted. I held my head in my hands, trying to catch my breath. Sweat rolled down the side of my ribs from the all-out mourning. Peace eventually quieted me. Praise God, I thought, this is over.

The female pastor walked to the pulpit and began the eulogy for my friend. I have no idea what she said because the Lord chose this moment to speak to me once more.

I felt Him whisper to my heart: “My church is a bunch of nice losers. They lay their hands on the sick and pray for them, but when they die, they aren’t mad at all. They don’t check themselves out to see what happened or what they may have done wrong with their prayers and actions. They accept defeats and don’t think anymore about them.

“Now, Major League baseball teams are all filled with good players. Each player has to be one of the best in the world to make it to the Major Leagues. Losing teams have good players on their rosters, too. But after a while, losing teams’ players don’t mind losing because after all, they still receive their Major League paychecks and bonuses.

“But winning Major League baseball teams are different. They hate losing and will do anything and whatever it takes to win. They hate losing.

“I want My church to hate losing!”

This time the grief, which hit me, measured a ten on the Richter Scale.

This took place twenty-three years ago.  From may viewpoint, the Church still does not hate losing spiritual battles yet, or at least, not enough to do whatever it takes to win them. Same old same old!

My prayer today:

Lord, do whatever it takes to open American Christians’ eyes to the world we now live in so we will take up the weapons of our warfare to destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God and to take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ. (Based on 2 Corinthians 10:4-5)

Many years ago, the Holy Spirit spoke to my heart and whispered, “There are no holidays from spiritual warfare. You have to fight everyday.”

Since then, I’ve also learned Satan will never be satisfied. Our enemy is like a roaring fire which never says, “Enough.” He will never offer us a cease-fire. Never! The war between the kingdom of darkness and the Kingdom of God will continue right up until Jesus returns.

If we’re thinking the evil that is infiltrating America today will back off some time soon, I have bad news for all of us. It will continue and worsen in the days ahead.

So, we have two choices:

  1. Step off the battlefield and sit on the sidelines in defeat.
  2. Or pick up our weapons of warfare, fight, and love not our own lives even unto death.

My prayer today:

Lord, help American Christians to be watchful and serious so we can stand steadfast in faith, resisting Satan until our dying breaths. (Based on 1 Peter 5:8)

Good marriages are not built on democratic principles, but rather on living together in consensus or agreement.

For example, let’s say Carol and I arrive at a Y in the road for our lives. Carol believes we should turn to the left and I think we should go to the right.

Democratically, the vote is one to one or a tie, which results in a stalemate.

But what we usually say when this happens: “Let’s pray and allow the Lord to speak to us on what He thinks.”

It may take an hour, a day, a week, or whatever, but the Lord is always faithful to speak to one or both of us, changing our minds on the positions we held at that time. So then, we can walk together in agreement.

Can two walk together unless they are agreed? (Amos 3:3)

My prayer today:

Lord, open the eyes of American husbands and wives to the power of agreement  in our marriages so whatever we ask is done for us by our Father in heaven. (Based on Matthew 18:19)

The Lord carried the prophet Ezekiel to a valley of death and sat him down there. All around the prophet were dry human bones scattered everywhere. The Lord said to Ezekiel –

Son of man, can these bones live?” (Ezekiel 37:3)

Ezekiel wisely answered –

O Sovereign LORD, you alone know the answer to that.” (Ezekiel 37:3 NLT)

Then, the Lord said to Ezekiel –

“Prophesy to these bones, and say to them, ‘O dry bones, hear the word of the LORD! ‘Thus says the Lord GOD to these bones: “Surely I will cause breath to enter into you, and you shall live.” (Ezekiel 37:4-5)

The dry bones represented Israel and its dead hopes while the nation was in exile. The prophecy revealed God’s plans to restore Israel and His people.

My prayer today:

Lord, raise up believers who are anointed by You to prophesy life to the cities of America, especially San Diego, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Oakland, Portland, and Seattle.

Prayers For American Christian’s Eyes to be Opened (9/19/2017)

Many years ago, I had a vision of thousands of Christians walking along a high mountaintop. Life was good. Everyone enjoyed the blessings being given to them by God. I then saw a whirlwind of calamities strike the believers. So overwhelming were the calamities that almost all of the Christians lost hope and were swept over a cliff into deep despair and defeat. A few believers still hung onto the edge of the cliff by their fingernails. I knew these few survivors could not last through another trial without giving up and also falling into despair and defeat along with the others.

As I looked at this horrible scene in the vision, the Holy Spirit spoke to me. “These Christians did not like the Word of Faith messengers I sent to the Body of Christ. They did not like their hairstyles or their clothing or the way they talked or acted. But most of all, they did not receive the revelation of faith, which I wanted the Body to have so they could withstand the trials, which are heading toward America. I want you to go and tell them they need the Word of Faith revelation.”

(Excerpt from Prophecy 101 by Larry Nevenhoven, ©2013, Amazon eBook)

My first few years as a Christian, I read dozens of Word of Faith Books written by Kennith Hagin, Charles Capps, Marilyn Hickey, Kenneth Copeland, Fred Price, and others. This is my foundation as a believer.

Sadly, today, when Word of Faith teachers are mentioned, most critics categorize them as “prosperity preachers.” Many have fallen into that rut, but that’s not the case for all of them.

Kenneth Hagin and Charles Capps are the two teachers that have blessed me the most. I recommend their books to those who want a deeper faith revelation, especially in having their prayers answered.

My prayer today:

Lord, help American believers sort the chaff from the wheat when it comes to faith teachings so that our faith pleases You. (Based on Matthew 3:12 and Hebrews 11:6)

Prayers for America (9/14/2017)

The Apostle Paul was walking through the streets of Philippi, heading to a prayer meeting by the river. A young slave girl met him on the street and began stating, “These men are the servants of the Most High God, who proclaim to you the way of salvation.”

The words sound accurate, right?

And if this happened today, most believers would proclaim her to be a prophet. She would then be on TV, radio, writing books, and totally accepted by most churches.

Yet, nothing could be further from the truth because the slave girl had a spirit of divination and made her owners wealthy from her fortune-telling.

Paul was greatly annoyed by the words spoken by the slave girl. He didn’t want a lying demon proclaiming his ministry and then leading people down a wide path to Hell. He wanted the Holy Spirit to convict people of their need for a Savior, leading them to salvation.

My prayer today:

Lord, give American believers a love for the truth so that we are not deceived by Satan’s power, signs, and lying wonders. (Based on 2 Thessalonians 2:9-10)

If you disagree with President Obama, you’re branded a racist.

If you agree with President Trump, you’re branded a racist and a sexist.

If you disagree with same-sex marriage, you’re branded a homophobe.

If you disagree with global warming (now called climate change), you’re branded as a denier.

Hey, what’s with all of this labeling?

Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. (Ephesians 6:11)

This is a shaming strategy of Satan to shut the mouths of Christians from speaking truth and preaching the gospel to our neighbors, friends, and other Americans. We need to understand that this type of persecution will not go away and will only intensify in the future.

It’s up to each believer to determine his or her commitment now.

My prayer today:

O Lord, help believers to prepare our minds for action and to be sober-minded, setting our hope fully on the grace that will be brought to us at the revelation of Jesus Christ. (Based on 1 Peter 1:13)

Prayers for America (9/7/2017)

11160680_10202970551704040_6853963304935390655_n

The Pharisees and Sadducees wanted a sign from heaven concerning Jesus. Our Lord rebuked them saying, “You know how to interpret the weather signs in the sky, but you don’t know how to interpret the signs of the times.

Why did Jesus rebuke them?

Unlike the common people, the Pharisees and Sadducees had access to the Old Testament scrolls and spent time studying the Law and the Prophets. They should have known that Jesus was the Messiah, but their traditions and fleshly thinking veiled their spiritual eyes.

Would Jesus rebuke us for our lack of interpreting the signs of the times in today’s America?

Probably.

You see, on August 21, 2017, our nation had its first total solar eclipse visible across the entire contiguous United States since 1918.

Then, on August 25, 2017, Hurricane Harvey hit Texas and became the first hurricane to make landfall in America for almost twelve years, since Hurricane Wilma in 2005. Harvey is the costliest storm to ever hit Texas and the second most costly, after Katrina, in America’s history.

Now, Hurricane Irma has the potential of being the most devastating storm to ever hit America and is projected to make landfall sometime Saturday.

For thus says the LORD,
Who created the heavens,
Who is God,
Who formed the earth and made it,
Who has established it,
Who did not create it in vain,
Who formed it to be inhabited:
“I am the LORD, and there is no other. (Isaiah 45:18)

At the very least, we have to understand that we are in a new season with God because the signs of the times have drastically changed. We need to seek Him now with all of our heart to hear His words for America.

My prayer today:

Lord, open our hearts to the love of the truth and give us ears to hear what the Spirit is saying to the churches. (Based on 2 Thessalonians 2:10 and Revelation 2:7)
