Why Prophesy if Hardly Anyone Pays Attention? (Part 3)

dscf1526

One of the most insightful statements in the whole New Testament was uttered when Philip excitedly told his brother about finding the Messiah. “Can anything good come out of Nazareth?” replied Nathaniel.

It was bad enough being from Galilee, which was despised by the Jews because its inhabitants lacked culture, spoke with a crude dialect, and lived among so many Gentiles. But the worst dung hill in all of Galilee was the small, poor village of Nazareth, which contained less than two hundred people. Why Nazareth was not even mentioned once in the Old Testament! How could the Messiah come out of such a lowly place?

Nathaniel was shocked to learn the truth.

Young Jeremiah could certainly have related to Nathaniel’s surprise when he heard God say:

Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you; I appointed you a prophet to the nations. (Jeremiah 1:5)

There had to be all kinds of thoughts going through Jeremiah’s mind before he finally spoke.

He was a Levite, son of a priest named Hilkiah. Jeremiah would have been studying and preparing himself for his Temple and teaching ministry five or so years ahead of him. But he would have also remembered that he was from Anathoth and from the lineage of Abiathar, the high priest who was defrocked by Solomon for choosing Adonijah to be king upon David’s death. There was a stigma upon the Anthoth priests because the high priests now all came from the sons of Zadok, rather than from Anathoth.

So, why would God want a prophet from Anathoth?

Eventually, Jeremiah spoke:

“Ah, Lord GOD! Behold, I cannot speak, for I am a youth.” (Jeremiah 1:6)

Jeremiah was approximately twenty years old at the time. He knew that priests served in the Temple from twenty-five years of age  until they were fifty years old. He also knew there were veteran prophets in Zephaniah and Huldah available to be the Lord’s voice to Judah and other nations. So, his statement about being young was understandable.

God overruled Jeremiah’s objection:

“Do not say, ‘I am only a youth’; for to all to whom I send you, you shall go, and whatever I command you, you shall speak. Do not be afraid of them, for I am with you to deliver you, declares the LORD.” (Jeremiah 1:7-8)

Jeremiah learned quickly that the Lord was boss, but he still had a few other lessons to learn.

Why Prophesy if Hardly Anyone Pays Attention? (Part 2)

dscf1526

Let’s set the stage for the Prophet Jeremiah’s ministry:

The Lord sent His prophets to the northern ten tribes, but Israel refused to turn from their idolatrous ways and return to following Him. Israel so angered the Lord that He removed the northern ten tribes from His sight by having Assyria carry them off into captivity in 722 BC.

Isaiah prophesied to Judah during this time period and continued prophesying through the reign of Judah’s King Hezekiah and also into the early reign of King Manasseh which began in 687 BC. Sadly, King Manasseh did not follow the ways of his father, Hezekiah, and sinned even more than Israel and had Isaiah sawed in half in 680 BC.

King Manasseh was carried off in chains and hooks to Babylon in 650 BC. Manasseh repented while he was in captivity and God heard his cries, bringing him back to Jerusalem in 648 BC. Manasseh then tried to reverse his sinful practices and reform Judah, but he died in 642 BC.

King Manasseh’s evil son, Ammon, became king, but was assassinated in 640 BC.

Then, an amazing prophecy came to pass when eight-year old Josiah became King of Judah in 640 BC. You see, three hundred years earlier, an unnamed prophet prophesied to Israel’s King Jeroboam:

“O altar, altar! This is what the LORD says: A child named Josiah will be born into the dynasty of David. On you he will sacrifice the priests from the pagan shrines who come here to burn incense, and human bones will be burned on you.” (1 Kings 13:2)

I would guess that this astounding prophecy was repeated over and over again to the people of Judah during the early days of King Josiah’s reign. Probably everyone knew it by heart.

Also, two years after Josiah’s coronation, Zephaniah began prophesying to Judah and Jerusalem by saying:

I will stretch out My hand against Judah and against all the inhabitants of Jerusalem…The great day of the Lord is near; it is near and hastens quickly. The noise of the day of the Lord is bitter; there the mighty men shall cry out…Neither their silver nor their gold shall be able to deliver them in the day of the Lord’s wrath; but the whole land shall be devoured by the fire of His jealousy… (Zephaniah 1:4, 14, 18)

Wouldn’t you think that all of these prophecies and prophetic events would cause Judah to repent, never wandering from the straight and narrow path of the Lord?

Well, wait till we study Jeremiah’s ministry to Judah, beginning in 627 BC.

Why Prophesy if Hardly Anyone Pays Attention? (Part 1)

DSCF1526

Dad’s angry eyes pierced my heart. He broke off the stare and breathed out an exaggerated sigh after a few uncomfortable moments.

“Jeremiah, why didn’t you listen to me?” he whispered.

No doubt these same words had been expressed thousands of times by anguished parents to wayward children in this exact place, the visitors’ room at County Jail Number 2. A bulletproof glass window separated us as we sat facing each other.

Words formed in my mouth, but I swallowed them. What could I say?

I shrugged and looked down.

“So, nothing to say for yourself, huh?” he said, slowly shaking his baldhead back and forth. Then he added, “You know what?”

“What?” I whispered, not really wanting to hear the answer.

“I don’t understand you anymore. Why do you keep making trouble for us?”

The tight handcuffs cut off the circulation in my wrists. The leg irons chafed my ankles. My orange jumpsuit with the number 2-66679 on the breast pocket felt itchy and hot. Sweat rolled down my rib cage. I felt miserable and Dad was not helping the situation one bit with his angry demeanor.

“Dad,” I said in a paper-thin voice, “I’ve tried to explain everything to you, but you won’t listen. You always get mad and stomp off.”

“Give me a break! Who wouldn’t do the same? How many men in this city believe they’re prophets, ordered by God to speak?”

I let the insult go and glanced over at the digital clock on the wall. Fifteen more minutes until the guards escorted me back to my private cell among the serial rapists, child molesters, and gang-bangers.

“Dad, please. We don’t have time for this right now.”

“Okay, okay.”

He drummed his fingers on the white Formica countertop, trying to release his pent-up fury.

“What about a lawyer for me?” I said.

“I phoned the Christian Alliance Firm. They said no.”

“Really?”

He nodded.

“Why?” I said.

“Your lawyer friend, Sean Finley, told me the firm does not agree with your prophecies. They want nothing to do with you.”

My mouth dropped open. Sean Finley had been my college roommate. I sold him and his wife, Beverly, a home in Pacific Heights. Now, he won’t help me in my hour of need. That’s just great! I thought.

I shook myself out of my reverie.

“What about other lawyers?” I said.

“I tried five other top-notch firms. They all said that they’re too busy.”

I gasped as a wave of panic washed over me.

“Nobody wants to represent me?”

“I didn’t say that.”

“Then, tell me,” I shouted loud enough that others in the room turned to look at us. “Who have you found for me?”

He blew out a deep breath before answering.

“Newman Little.”

“Newman Little. Isn’t he the socialist nut-case lawyer from Berkeley? Always ranting about some wild leftist agendas on radio and TV talk shows.”

“That’s the guy.”

If I could have, I would have held my head in my hands and cried, but the handcuffs prevented the maneuver. I stared off into space, not seeing anything, not thinking anything, not hearing anything, and not even realizing where I was.

Dad gawked at me, his eyes attempting to peek inside my mind.

“Son, San Francisco is in an uproar over what happened to the Golden Gate Bridge and the Bay Bridge. People want to hang somebody and you’re the somebody being fitted for the noose. And to be honest, you’re the perfect political scapegoat: white Christian male with a big mouth.”

Thursday’s Prayers for America (5/19/2016)

Although 635 million tickets were sold for a recent jackpot, the odds of winning The Powerball Jackpot Lottery is 1 in 292 million. These are approximately the same odds as being hit by a meteor while sitting in your backyard. Why do people spend their $2 on such a losing venture?

“Well, someone has to win, right? Why not me?” is the most common answer.

Now, if you asked these same ticket purchasers if they have prepared themselves for possible terrorists’ attacks and calamities in the near future, their answers would probably be:

“Are you kidding me? No! The odds of a calamity or terrorist’s attack affecting my life are about the same as a meteor hitting me while I sit in the backyard.”

Notice the logic here!

“If you put 500 or a 1000 ISIS against the San Diego Police Department I think that fight goes to ISIS,” Dan Gordon said. “The time it would take to mobilize the Marines, let’s say, at Camp Pendleton or the Navy Seals at Coronado Island, it would be at the earliest, a matter of hours. It simply takes time to get a unit locked and loaded and ready to deploy, and in that time ISIS terrorists could kidnap, murder and maim thousands of people. (Dan Gordon, author of Day of the Dead and veteran of six Middle Eastern wars with the IDF. See full article here.)

I wrote a book entitled, Planning + Preparation = Survival, because I don’t think our government or our police forces can protect us from calamities or terrorists’ attacks. It’s our responsibility and the time to plan and prepare is now.

My prayer today:

Lord, give us Americans ears to hear what the Spirit is saying to the churches and willing and obedient hearts to act. (Based on Revelation 2:7 and Isaiah 1:19)

What do you think and has the Lord spoken to you today?

Join with me on Thursdays to fast and pray for America.

“My Church is a Bunch of Nice Losers” (Conclusion)

A little over twenty-five years ago, I read an interview in Charisma Magazine of David Yonggi Cho. In it, Cho explained the success of Yoido Full Gospel Church (830,000 members) and why America would never have a church that large.

“Yoido is built on prayer,” Cho stated. “All of our hundreds of pastors and elders average three hours per day in prayer. Hundreds of thousands of other members pray at least two hours each day. Our prayer meetings number over two hundred thousand participants and Prayer Mountain has over one million believers, visiting it to pray and fast for days at a time in special cubicles. I don’t believe Americans are willing to pay this high of price to have a church like Yoido.”

Cho’s words bugged me. So, I cut the article out of the magazine and hung it on my wall to spur me on to prove him wrong about us Americans.

Fast forward to today’s America.

I mostly now agree with Cho’s words because let’s be honest, okay?

How many people do you think will attend a church which announces ahead of time that its foundations are built on the 8 Beatitudes and Sermon on the Mount with prayer, fasting, giving to the poor, self-denial, and seeking the Lord being our outward responses? My guess is that big buildings won’t be needed — an average sized closet should handle the attendance.

And salaried clergy? We won’t need them.

And sermons? There won’t be any unless the Holy Spirit anoints someone to speak.

And music? All of us should be able to make a joyful noise, maybe even a song of the Spirit.

Temecula may be 6,000 miles from Seoul Korea and Yoido Full Gospel Church, but it might as well be 6 million miles with crazy ideas like this one.

Yet, this is what the Lord has placed on my heart to pray for and start: churches and groups based on Matthew 5,6, and 7 or the Sermon on the Mount.

You see, when society unravels here in America – and it will – our neighbors will be looking for answers. They won’t find them in most churches, which are filled with nice people, but who won’t have prepared themselves ahead of time. This will be the day that Matt 567 groups will be needed, but the time for preparation is now.

My prayer is that the West Coast will soon be filled with these groups, assemblies, churches, or whatever you want to call them so that every neighborhood will have one nearby.

Okay, it’s a big vision, but I believe it’s a winning one for the days ahead.

Tuesday’s Prayers for One New Man (5/17/2007)

ffoz.org/discover/publications/one-new-man.html

ffoz.org/discover/publications/one-new-man.html

As I wrote in my conclusion of The Search For One New Man series last Wednesday, I feel the Lord has called me to pray and fast for the one new man — “…that he might create in himself one new man in place of the two…(Ephesians 2:15)” — to come into being here in America.

I believe that most of the unity, most of the power, most of the manifold wisdom of God, and most of the Church’s growth has been stymied because the Jews and Gentiles have not been properly joined together as the one new man.

My prayers today:

Lord, I pray that Jews and Gentiles walk together in a manner worthy of their calling as the one new man, with all humility, gentleness, patience, bearing with one another, and eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. (Based on Ephesians 4:1-3)

Join with me on Tuesday’s to pray and fast for the one new man to finally come forth in the Body of Christ.

“My Church is a Bunch of Nice Losers” (Part 8)

Does it surprise you that most of what we do in religious circles has no precedent in Scripture? This includes many of the activities within church services, the education and ordination of clergy, the routines commonly used in youth ministry, the methods of raising funds for ministry, the ways in which music is used in churches, even the presence and nature of church buildings.

There were three historical periods when a bevy of changes were made in common Christian practices: the era of Constantine, the decades surrounding the Protestant Reformation, and the Revivalist period of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. But as you are about to find out, those changes were the result of passionate, though often ill-informed, followers of Christ. The believers during those periods simply went along for the ride, which resulted in new perspectives and practices that churches have held onto for many years. So many years, in fact, that you probably think of those routines as biblical in origin.

Not surprisingly, having changed the biblical mode of the church, we have become adept at building support for our approaches through proof-texting. Proof-texting is the practice of taking disparate, unrelated verses of Scripture, often out of context, to “prove” that our position squares with the Bible…

Does it really matter how we practice our faith, as long as the activities enable people to love God and obey Him? The preponderance of evidence shows that these perspectives, rules, traditions, expectations, assumptions, and practices often hinder the development of our faith. In other instances, they serve as barriers that keep us from encountering the living God. The way in which we practice our faith can, indeed, affect our faith itself.

Does that mean that we must go back to the Bible and do everything as the disciples did between AD 30 and 60? No. Social and cultural shifts over the last two thousand years have made it impossible to imitate some of the lifestyle and religious efforts of the early church. For example, we use cell phones, drive in automobiles, and utilize central heat and air. The first-century Christians had none of these forms of human convenience. Therefore, adhering to the principles of the New Testament does not mean reenacting the events of the first-century church. If so, we would have to dress like all first-century believers did, in sandals and togas!

Inside Israel

The Shuk in Jerusalem

The Shuk in Jerusalem

Once again, it’s time to hear from our sister in Jerusalem about what she is witnessing there as a believer in Yeshua. Put your prayer shawls on and pray for Israel and Sister J. Now here she is —

Dear brothers and sisters, GREETINGS in The Name of Yeshua h’meshiach, Jesus Christ , in Whom we trust and believe together.   May He be glorified and blessed, and may you be encouraged.

Sometimes we are privileged to witness moments, glimpses through a window, that leave us breathless.  This has happened to me several times through the passing of the two memorial days and Independence Day. Then, it falls to me to lay them before The King of Kings and ask Him to give me the GREAT GRACE to translate them to you.  May The Lord be faithful, not for my sake or even yours, but for the glory of His great Name, for surely there is a rustling in the top of the mulberry trees.

Each year I find it increasingly difficult to believe that they will pull it off again.  It’s sort of like: “Lord, You DID pay the rent last month, but surely this is the month that it just won’t happen.”  The fact that the country takes on a mantle of deep mourning, not once, but twice in less than a 10 day period, and the fact that the SECOND memorial day literally personally touches each life here. Just to THINK that the raising of a flag, the changing of a note on the trumpet from a minor key to a major key, that as the sun goes down on the deep grief, that it can really and honestly be buried again and again. And then transformed into great rejoicing, true, real and significant rejoicing, it is inconceivable to me.

But, YES!  THEY DID IT AGAIN!

And for me, it was even more dramatic this year than in the 21 past years that I have witnessed them, though I can’t fully say why.  Perhaps it was that the grief seemed heavier this year.

But that IS how the nation was born.

And re-born.

Each time it has been it tears and ashes and then the wonder of a nation born in a day.

AND WHAT A DAY IT IS!

What I am building up to is what I heard on Friday at work, again and again, but I’ll share some background first.

We live a short 3 blocks away from Mount Herzl, our main military cemetery, where our founding fathers, presidents, and Prime Ministers are buried along with the soldiers.   It is also attached to Yad v’shem (our national Holocaust Memorial), so we do live in a rather central place.

The ceremony is fully televised but it is only in Hebrew and not translated.  I am so thankful to finally be able to understand Hebrew, for it is so rich and real and moving.  Although it is so near, we watch it on TV and then walk up to join the celebrating throngs watching the fireworks display.

The modern state of Israel both rose up out of war and was immediately plunged INTO war, and the ceremony is begun with a final Memorial prayer of thanksgiving for those who gave their lives. It is truly a “kiss” from the nation interspersed with poignant poem, song and dance, and scripture.  This year Isaiah 60:4 was read to open the ceremonies:

“Lift up your eyes all around, and see:

They all gather together, they come to you;

Your sons shall come from afar,

And your daughters shall be nursed at your side.”

The ceremonies themselves are full, but at the center is the lighting of the 12 torches for the 12 tribes of Israel.  Each year I wonder where they got such amazing people and then I look around me and there they are in the midst.  There is a good job done these days of summarizing the stories of the torch lighters in English. It really helps knowing their backgrounds before they speak.  Although they were all deeply moving, I wanted to share about 3 with you.

Two were Arabs who put their lives on the line to stand with Israel and they are both strong, brave Zionists with clear messages to their own communities and those around them.  One, a Greek Orthodox priest, declares openly that he is proud to be part of a Jewish Democratic state that gives such freedom and opportunity to all of its citizens. A refreshing message indeed these days from an Arab man.  He encourages the Christian Arab youth to serve the country and to take advantage of the educational system provided to become productive citizens.

Also at the great expense of persecution from her own community, a Druze dentist became the first woman from her people to step out and study medicine, encouraging her people in like manner.  Brave souls, each of them standing tall amongst the others.

But the one who brought down the house, Avi Biton, a bus driver from Haifa, who though stabbed in the back by a terrorist, purposely zigzagged his bus. His maneuvering threw the terrorist off his feet and allowed his passengers to flee to safety until he himself subdued the terrorist before he passed out.  But that wasn’t what brought down the house.  He stood before the nation holding his torch and began as others do: “I Avi Biton, son of blessed memory”…but he did not stop there.  He went on to name every member of his family tree: grandson of, brother of, father of, Grandfather of…on and on until he ended with a blessing that is a religious’ blessing, used to bless God “Who has brought us to this moment.”  His voice broke into a sobbing boom as he continued, full of emotion and passion exhorting the people of Israel to be strong and of good courage and to stand and having done all to stand.  The usually emotional but dignified ceremony erupted with cheers mixed with tears. He brought us to our knees and thankfully stopped before he was removed from the central spot.

He brought down the house and we successfully, AGAIN, moved from mourning to rejoicing!

Even as the fireworks began, the yummy smells of chicken and meats roasting over open fires (mangle) began to fill the air as other celebrants went downtown to enjoy street parties.

The country opens up all historical and military sites to the public. It is a truly educational day difficult to describe, but the traditional mangle is very much a part of it.  We were blessed to partake with our kehila (fellowship) at a beautiful home belonging to a family in our fellowship in the central Binyamin region (the tribe of Binyamin). It was the sweetest of fellowship while large flags blew freely in the wind framing a spectacular view of the country promised, the country given, and the country rising up again from ashes and countless wars for the glory of God Who never fails.

Being that I go to an indigenous Hebrew speaking kehila, we are blessed to have many soldiers and former soldiers. I was not here in the days being described, but still I sat with wonder, knowing that THIS is what God has done, is doing and will do.  Not just HISTORY being written and recorded before my eyes, but HIS STORY still in the process of time…and we His witnesses.

But now I come to Friday.  It is one thing to sit with believers who know Him and can see the wonder of it all, but it’s miraculous when the door cracks open and we can see His workings in those who do not YET know Him.

As a native English speaking immigrant, most people don’t expect me to understand, so when I asked each one how their yom h’atzmaoot was, each asked me in kind.  They did not expect my answer. That I had been with those who “were there” and who had loved ones who “were there.”  They didn’t expect that we were with Hebrew speakers out of the city in an Israeli village.

They began to share with me their hearts.

The big discussion that I heard over and over this year from all manner of people – even the most secular – was if yom h’atz’maoot should be declared a full religious holiday.  THAT has HUGE implications for the Jewish people.  We do NOT declare religious holidays, period!  They were set down in Torah (the Bible).  Purim was adopted as a religious holiday, but that was MANY years ago.

At work, I heard the discussion repeated again and again. The premise resounding loud and clear, “But this IS a miracle from God!”

My boss would argue, “But the rabbis say that we can not say that this is TRULY Israel until geula (Redemption) has taken place and Messiah has come.”

Again they would say, “But this IS His miracle. His Hand regathering us.”

After working in this doctor’s office for 18 years, I am pretty much part of the family.  Inis and Ahron Har Nooie are a sweet gentle couple, somewhat emotional, but both bank professionals so not TOO emotional.  As we discussed the subject and Ahron told me, “I shared my story on the radio yesterday.  For half an hour. I was in the Sinai when the Egyptians attacked.  Oh, that was war!  BIG war!  My friends were dying all around me. We had so little to fight with but we had to convince them that we had much more than we did.  Our Generals were smart…” He went on to describe horrific battles, the pain and grief and the miraculous feats.  With big tears he turned to me and said, “You understand!   You really do. This is not a game…a nice nice politically correct game. This is survival, but it is BIGGER than that even!  I believe that we are STILL WRITING THE PASSOVER STORY.   WE ARE STILL FINISHING THE HAGGADAH (the book of the story read at the Passover Seder). We are still coming out of Egypt, but we ARE coming out of Egypt and His Hand IS STILL LEADING US AND THIS IS A RELIGIOUS HOLIDAY. (now this is a secular couple I am speaking about) AND WE HAVE TO KNOW IT AND PROCLAIM IT!  WE ARE LIVING A MIRACLE NOW!”

I could have hugged him.  He said it most eloquently and pointedly, but dear brothers and sisters, I heard it at least 15 times over and over from different people. THEY RECOGNIZE THAT IT IS INDEED THE WORK OF THE GOD OF ABRAHAM, ISAAC AND JACOB and they are hungry to know the rest.

I have never had a yom h’atz’maoot like this one.

SOMETHING that I can’t quite see has changed or progressed or moved.

Seasons change and indeed they are running!  Jerusalem Day is up next on 6th of June. May we each be found IN HIM ALONE…With our eyes fixed upon Him…for His glory.

Lovingly,

your sister J

Why Did God Elect President Obama?

All of Israel should rise up every morning, face west, salute Egypt, and say, “Thanks Yahweh for Egypt.”

You see, it was in Egypt that Israel became a nation. The slavery and brutal oppression by the Egyptians molded and formed Israel into a nation that was totally dependent on God.

If God would have wanted to, he could have created and set into power a Ronald Reagan-like Pharaoh who had compassion on the Israelites and treated them in a godly manner. Then, what would have happened? The Israelites would have bowed down before the Ronald Reagan-like Pharaoh and stayed in Egypt. And today, they would still be singing songs about the Ronald Reagan-like Pharaoh.

Yet, God had a different plan.

But for this purpose I have raised you [Pharaoh] up, to show you My power, so that My name may be proclaimed in all the earth. (Exodus 9:16)

Ouch! We love-dovey Christians don’t like to think that God would raise up a vessel of dishonor or a vessel of wrath prepared for destruction, such as a Pharaoh, so that He might make known the riches of His glory on the vessels of mercy.

Okay, what about President Obama?

I had a vision during the 2008 presidential primaries when Obama and Hillary were fighting it out for the Democratic nomination. In it, the hand of God reached down from heaven and touched Barack Obama on his head. Sadly, I misinterpreted the vision by a country mile or two at the time, but that does not negate the vision.

God chose Barack Obama to be America’s 44th President. Period.

Now, why would God do this?

So that he might present the church to himself in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be holy and without blemish. (Ephesians 5:27)

Because we believers have little discernment and are so earthly minded, we usually miss the purposes of God in our trials. We look for comfort and escape whereas He uses our distresses and hardships as hammers and chisels to form us into the image of His Son.

What should we do?

We need to fast and pray like the Prophet Daniel did in Babylon, something like this:

“O Lord, You are great and awesome! You always fulfill Your covenant and keep Your promises of unfailing love to those who love You and obey Your commands. But America has sinned and done wrong. We have rebelled against You and scorned Your commands and regulations. We have refused to listen to Your servants the prophets…

Lord, You are in the right; but as You see, our faces are covered with shame. This is true of all of us. O Lord, we and our President, other leaders, and citizens are covered with shame because we have sinned against You. But the Lord our God is merciful and forgiving, even though we have rebelled against Him. We have not obeyed the Lord our God, for we have not followed the instructions He gave us through His servants the prophets. All of America has disobeyed Your instruction and turned away, refusing to listen to Your voice…

So now, the solemn curses written in the Law of Moses, the servant of God, have been poured down on us because of our sins. You have kept Your word and done to us and our leaders exactly as You warned. Every curse written against us in the Law of Moses will soon come true. Yet, we have refused to seek mercy from the Lord our God by turning from our sins and recognizing His truth…

In view of all Your faithful mercies, Lord, please turn Your furious anger away from America. All the nations of the world mock us because of our sins.

(Excerpt from Common Sense 2016 by Larry Nevenhoven, ©2016, Amazon eBook)

Just remember: all of Israel was delivered out of Egypt, all walked through the Red Sea, but only two geezers, Joshua and Caleb, crossed the Jordan River into the Promised Land. The rest of them had their bodies scattered in the wilderness.

This is the time to put our hands to the plow and not look back.

Thursday’s Prayers for America (5/12/2016)

I was once a part of a merger between a Charismatic Church and a Southern Baptist Church. It was an interesting experiment with the Charismatics praying in tongues, prophesying, raising their hands, and dancing in the aisles while the more sober-minded Baptists looked on.

One of the senior Baptist elders said, “I love how you Charismatics worship God, but I couldn’t do that.”

“Why?” I asked.

“Well, I have more than a half century of being against Charismatics and their gifts to ever change my ways now.”

“Really? You don’t believe the Holy Spirit can change you?”

“In theory, yes,” he said, “but in reality, no. You see, it’s just too hard to unlearn all of my teachings.”

My prayer today:

Lord, help us American believers to strip ourselves of every weight that slows us down and let us run with endurance the race You have set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith. (Based on Hebrews 12:2-3)

What do you think and has the Lord spoken to you today?

Join with me on Thursdays to fast and pray for America.
