Inside Israel

IMG_0568

Once again, it’s time to hear from our sister in Jerusalem about what she is witnessing there as a believer in Yeshua. Put your prayer shawls on and pray for Israel and Sister J. Now here she is …

May THE LORD be glorified, magnified and blessed …and may you be blessed and encouraged.

We live here in the midst of the struggle between Isaac and Ishmael, between Jacob and Esau, and between The God of Israel and His enemies. This struggle has re-surfaced with five being rammed by cars and two more stabbed to death. Riots are increasing in number and intensity. Our level of alert has been raised once again.  The presence of soldiers and police is both comforting and alarming.  Alarming because we know that the need is great, comforting because they are there to protect us.

I pray for all of them. For their salvation first, but also for their safety and for them to have wisdom and gentleness WITH discernment.  It IS a tense time!

But this was what I expected.

If you have read my letters for any length of time, you will remember me saying often: “It is all about Jerusalem.” It is NOT about the settlements (a very poor translation of a word that would better be interpreted village then the word settlement).  It is NOT about occupation.  It is NOT about rights or jobs or finances, although all of these issues have been exploited as steppingstones to get to this point.  It has ALWAYS been about JERUSALEM. The burdensome stone. The place where God chose to put HIS Name. The city which HE chose in ISRAEL to plant Himself and establish His seat for His purposes. And it is precisely because HE chose it that the battle has always been over it.

Years ago when the peace negotiations were far younger, the west laid out their strategy of dealing with the easy issues first and ease into the thorny ones: Judea and Samaria (called the west bank by the west), the so called “right of return” and JERUSALEM.

I said at the time, “Uh oh. This means giving up land, arming the Palestinians, tying our hands, and THEN plundering the rest of the land.”

But you see, it isn’t our land to give.

GOD SAID that this is HIS land and we do not have the RIGHT to touch it and to divide it.  On Yom Yerushalaym (Jerusalem Day) each year, I speak of the promise made before God by this nation – when Jerusalem was restored to Israel for the first time in 2,000 years – that we would guard her and that she would never again be divided.

But there is a different kind of tension right now because there is also rioting among the Israeli Arabs and not just the Palestinians.  Palestinians, you might remember, are NOT Israelis by their own choice.  They did not accept Israeli citizenship. They are the ones who want half of Israel (actually, all of it).  But there are a good number of Arabs who DID take Israeli citizenship at the formation of the state, who stayed on the land, who became full citizens, who live and work and play here and some of whom serve in the armed forces or other branches of service.  They vote and have full medical and educational rights etc.  They have every right that all Jewish citizens have, but in an incident last week with a riot, an Arab Israeli boy was killed.

I was in the shuk (market) on the following day. During the Gaza War, good relations existed between Arabs and the Jews.  It was always business as usual.

There are two Arab vendors in the shuk that I trade with on a weekly basis. They are always kind, but not that day. There was tension, which took me by surprise.  “Guard your heart and keep it soft,” I said to one young man in particular. He didn’t answer, which was unusual for him.

The Moslem mufti’s are calling for a Jerusalem intifada, and indeed, the Hamas leader said in his first statement after the Gaza war: “We have won in Gaza. ON TO JERUSALEM!”

That call was echoed across the Moslem populations world wide.  THEY KNOW THAT IF THEY WERE TO DIVIDE JERUSALEM, or worse, to take her, THEY WOULD BE STABBING THE JEWS IN THE HEART.

BUT GOD, WHO IS RICH IN MERCY AND KNOWS HOW TO GLORIFY HIS NAME, IS NOT TAKEN BY SURPRISE.  He is not sleeping and His purposes will not be thwarted.  His great Name WILL BE GLORIFIED!

I read both 2 Chronicles 20 and Ezekiel 16 in the same day and was touched by the fact that it is all so simple – the way to Him and the way away from Him. This message is foundationally the same from Genesis through Revelation: turn FROM Me and I will turn from you.  Turn TO Me and I will turn to you. His yoke is easy and His burden is light. He has made the way straight, and narrow and also simple.  How great is our God.

While riding the lite rail, my attention turned from my thoughts as the doors opened and a family boarded.  A carriage with a tiny baby, pushed by an older brother, a small Mother carrying another little one with 4 small boys of graduated height following closely at her skirt as she said clearly and persistently, ”Shhhh!  Shhhh!”

That admonition, heard by the whole train, was repeated gently but firmly, as if she were breathing it, through the entire trip.  An older sister authoritatively held the hand of a smaller one as the thin father brought up the rear.  All heads turned with the regular rise and fall of the “shhhh! Shhhh,” which, by the way, was obeyed.  I began to count and learned there were nine small noses in all and two parents.

Eleven train tickets is a price not easy to come up with, explaining the children’s delight about being on the train.  They were all neatly dressed in homemade clothes, a bit worn, but still clean. The girls had their hair modestly braided.  The parents were also neat, and although very thin and tired looking and obviously poor, they looked strong and functioned as a peaceful unit.  I watched as the excited children remained well behaved and heeded the constant reminder of “shhhhh! Shhhhh.”

It was interesting to notice the responses of the other passengers.  Although Haradi families, and even full and large ones are a common sight, you don’t often see a family much larger then 7 on the train, if for no other reason then the cost.  There was obvious disdain and disgust on some faces.  This is the liberal, left wing reaction to religious families. Period.  They simply do not believe in large families.  It is an ideological issue.

Other parents on the train looked on with awe and admiration.  Some of the rambunctious young people watched and became less rowdy and a bit more aware of their own behavior. Religious families ARE in fact usually larger then secular ones because they take seriously the Biblical injunction to be fruitful and multiply and believe that children ARE the blessing of The Lord.  In fact, they have turned it into a command.  At any rate, it is fun to see this type of Biblical battle lived out on the streets daily.

Thank you for your prayers both personally and for this nation.  May His kingdom come and His will be done both in our small private lives as well as in our nations,…His purposes for His glory.

Your sis,

J

Islamic Terrorists Versus Radical Christians: New Game. New Rules. (Part 6)

indian terrorist 2

How to be a Radical Christian (i.)

Pursue love, yet desire earnestly spiritual gifts, but especially that you may prophesy. (1 Corinthians 14:1)

Maybe your first thought is: “Yuck! Who wants this Pentecostal/Charismatic, phony baloney, spiritual gifts-type of stuff. Not me!”

Relax. Take a deep breath. Now, continue reading.

Let’s say that you and your wife take your daughter to the mall. Your little girl is three years old and dressed up in a Bambi t-shirt and matching jeans outfit. Everyone looks at her and smiles. She’s an absolute doll. You adore her and would do anything to protect her.

But before leaving home,  you were in a hurry and forgot to use the restroom. Now, you need to go. You tell your wife and, of course, she rolls her eyes and shakes her head. Then she says, “Oh honey, use the one in Macy’s Department Store. We’ll wait here by the kids play area.”

You rush to the restroom, do your duty, wash your hands, and leave. When you walk out of the store, you see a flash and hear an explosion from an Islamic terrorist’s bomb. It knocks you down. Glass particles and debris cover you.

Brushing yourself off, you run to where you wife and daughter were waiting. When you get there, you see bodies all over the floor. You somehow find your wife and daughter, but they’re covered with blood and dead.

Now, what are you going to do?

Are you going to call the police? Or the doctor? Or your pastor? Or the funeral home? Or are you just going to fall down and cry?

You see, at this disastrous moment, you need the gift of faith, the gift of healing, and the gift of miracles to try and raise your loved ones from the dead. And I guarantee that you would do anything to have these gifts at that time, wouldn’t you?

So, what’s stopping you from seeking the spiritual gifts right now? Pride. Bad teaching. Laziness. What?

Remember: Radical Christians do not care what others think. They swim upstream against whatever religious current they face.

Tuesday’s Prayers for America (11/11/2014)

dolly 3

A pastor friend of mine was so upset with some members of his congregation that he paced back and forth in the empty church. He voiced his disagreements aloud as he walked, quoting scriptures to back up his opinions. As he sounded off, the gentle voice of the Holy Spirit spoke to his heart, “Be careful about what you say because I live in them, too.”

My pastor friend fell on his knees, realizing he had wandered onto shaky ground. He repented and changed his attitudes from that moment forward.

Do not touch My chosen people, and do not hurt my prophets.” (Psalm 105:15 NLT)

Scripture states that the archangel Michael did not dare to speak a reproachful judgment against Satan because of Michael’s reverence of God who had delegated power to Satan. If that scripture is true, then why are we so willing to slam other believers who disagree with our doctrines?

Today I prayed:

Lord, I pray that we American believers become united as one so that the world will know the only true God and Jesus Christ, whom He sent to give life to those that believe in Him. (Based on John 17: 2, 3, 23)

What do you think and did the Lord speak to you today?

8 Exchanges at the Cross

My Aussie friend, Roger Williams, at Reality Revelations had the above video on his blog site. The video is 5 minutes long and well worth viewing, but what caught my attention was when Derek Prince spoke about the 8 exchanges which happened at the cross.

Prince said:

The cross is the center of the whole Christian faith. All the evil that was due us was thrust on Jesus. All the good that was due Jesus was made available to us. At the cross, 8 exchanges took place.

1. Jesus was punished that we might be forgiven.

2. Jesus was wounded that we might be healed.

3. Jesus was made sin with our sinfulness that we might be righteous with His righteousness.

4. Jesus died our death that we might receive His life.

5. Jesus endured our poverty that we might endure His abundance.

6. Jesus bore our shame that we might share His glory.

7. Jesus endured our rejection that we might have His acceptance with God the Father.

8. Jesus was made a curse that we might receive the blessing.

Friday’s Prayers for Prisoners (11/7/2014)

display-thumbnail-gospel-for_asia-RT09-03703

Each Friday I pray and fast for nations where Christians suffer the worst persecution around the world. This week I am praying and fasting for:

Yemen. 27.2 million people with a few thousand Christians (.1 %).

There is some religious freedom for foreigners here, but evangelism is prohibited, and Yemenis who leave Islam may face the death penalty. Muslim-background believers are forced to meet in secret. If their faith is discovered, they face severe persecution from authorities, family, and extremist groups who threaten ‘apostates’ with death if they do not recant. Insecurity caused by Islamist movements makes Yemen very unstable. Christians are believed to be under surveillance by extremists, and ex-pat Christians can be a specific target for these extremist groups. (Open Doors, World Watch List)

Yemen is the poorest country on the Arabian Peninsula, making it susceptible to infiltration by extremist groups.  The country is a haven for Islamic militants, who have kidnapped and held foreigners for ransom…Expressing faith in Jesus is dangerous for Yemenis. It is illegal for non- Muslims to proselytize and for Muslims to convert to Christianity, but expatriates may privately practice religions other than Islam. Yemeni Christian converts from Islam face the death penalty if discovered, and family culture is extremely opposed to conversion. Mosque leaders openly preach an anti-Western message of hate. (Voice of the Martyrs)

Today, I prayed:

Lord, I pray for a thousand Stephens to be raised up in Yemen who are full of grace, power, wisdom, and the Spirit, who do great wonders and signs among the people, and who are willing to debate crowds of Muslims to their faces, not worrying about their lives even unto their deaths. (Based on Acts 6:8-10 and Revelation 12:11)

Join with me on Fridays to fast and pray for prisoners, according to Hebrews 13:3.

Praise the Lord…Pass the Ammo (Part 7)

prophesy1

The morning after my salvation, I jumped out of bed and eventually made my way to the family room. I felt an inner desire to pray. The only problem was that I had been an agnostic for twenty years and no matter how we slice the bologna, agnosticism does not prepare us very well for praying.

The best I could come up with while sitting on the sofa was something like this: “Lord, bless my wife. Bless my son. Bless my daughter. Bless my mom. Bless my dad…” And so forth.

These simple prayers probably seem juvenile to most believers, but to be honest, I still follow the same prayer format today.

For example, when I sold cars, I walked around and introduced myself to everyone at the various dealerships where I worked. During the introductions, I asked the names of their spouses and their children. Then, I prayed and asked God to bless each worker and his family by their individual names each morning.

I do not cease to give thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers (Ephesians 1:16)

From time to time, the Holy Spirit gives me insight or I have personal knowledge so I can pray special prayers for people. But for the most part,  this is the exception rather than the norm for me.

Okay, how does this put my angels to work?

Who carries out our prayers?

Bless the LORD, O you his angels, you mighty ones who do his word, obeying the voice of his word! (Psalm 103:20)

Angels wait for us believers to pray in line with scriptures and true prophetic words so they can carry out our words. In Hebrews, the author refers to these angels as ministering spirits, whose main service is to care for people who will inherit salvation. And guess what? God desires for all to be saved.

In addition, the Greek word sōtēria, which is translated into the English word salvation, not only implies eternal salvation but every blessing from God.

So, when we bless someone, it’s a full mouthful of good stuff for that person.

How would you like to add a little more juice to your prayers?

Islamic Terrorists Versus Radical Christians: New Game. New Rules. (Part 5)

indian terrorist 2

Why are radical Christians needed in the war with Islamic terrorists?

For we are not wrestling with flesh and blood [contending only with physical opponents], but against the despotisms, against the powers, against [the master spirits who are] the world rulers of this present darkness, against the spirit forces of wickedness in the heavenly (supernatural) sphere. (Ephesians 6:12 Amplified)

Let’s start with a question that is not asked often enough: what do Islamic terrorists believe?

They believe that Allah is backing their ventures and that they are doing Allah’s will when they murder infidels (also known as you and me). They believe America is the Great Satan. They believe that their version of Islam is the only true religion and will eventually conquer the world. They also believe that they will be rewarded in Paradise if they are killed in their attempts to kill infidels and fight the Great Satan.

Now, don’t make the mistake of thinking that they are just powerless, clueless  fanatics because nothing could be farther from the truth. A spiritual power guides them and empowers them. Call it the spirit of Babylon. Or the Ishmael spirit. Or the spirit of Islam. But whatever you call it, it is a religious spirit.

And guess what? It is my belief that the ruling spirit over America is a religious spirit.

So, if there is such a thing as a perfect storm, this is it: America’s foes are backed by a religious spirit and at the same time, America is under the power of a religious spirit. As of now, this is a no-can-lose war for Satan.

America absolutely needs radical Christians that know how to fight demonic principalities and powers – AND – are free enough of America’s ruling religious spirit to fight the good fight of faith. This is our only hope for victory.

Tuesday’s Prayers for America (November 4, 2014)

dolly 911

On June 16, 1858, the Illinois Republican Party chose Abraham Lincoln as their candidate for the U. S. Senate to run against Democrat Stephen A. Douglas. That evening Lincoln addressed his Republican colleagues and stated the following:

“A house divided against itself cannot stand.”

I believe this government cannot endure, permanently half slave and half free.

I do not expect the Union to be dissolved — I do not expect the house to fall — but I do expect it will cease to be divided.

It will become all one thing or all the other. (House Divided Speech)

Lincoln’s speech was considered too radical at the time, but Lincoln justified it by saying, “I will deliver it as written. I want to use some universally known figure, expressed in simple language as universally known, that it may strike home to the minds of men in order to rouse them to the peril of the times.”

Although Lincoln lost his senate race with Douglas, his words soon proved to be an accurate prophecy.

Today, I prayed:

Lord, whether our nation remains divided or not after today’s election is in Your hands, so I pray that we believers walk in such perfect unity that our communities will know that we are Your disciples because of our love for one another. (Based on John 17:23 and John 13:35)

Learning How to Pray Effectively in 59 Seconds or Less (Part 17)

IMG_0011

I recently had coffee with a friend at Starbucks. “You will never guess what the leader of our Bible study asked me last night?” he said.

I shook my head.

“The leader asked, ‘On a scale of one to ten, how would you rate your faith level?’ I answered her by saying that mine was probably a zero or a one.”

“What did she say to that?” I asked.

“She wasn’t impressed and said that her faith level was at least an eight or a nine. Another person stated that his faith level was a perfect ten. Larry, what would you have replied to them?”

I laughed and said, “I probably would have jumped up and said, ‘Let’s go to a hospital or a funeral home right now. Such great faith needs to be used for healing the sick and raising the dead. Let’s not waste any time!'”

We both laughed.

“He must increase, but I must decrease.” (John 3:30)

At our salvation, we each received our own lumps of faith. What we do with our lumps is up to each of us. We can increase our faith through studying God’s word, prayer, hearing the voice of God, our experiences, fasting, and so forth. Yet, there will eventually be certain situations where we realize that our faith is not enough.

looking unto Jesus, the Author and Finisher of our faith… (Hebrews 12:2)

Then, our faith must be in the Lord, His power, and His wisdom to do what’s best for that situation. If the Lord heals, if He provides, or if He shows up with a miracle, praise the Lord. If He doesn’t, praise Him anyway.

“Sometimes God allows in His wisdom what He could easily prevent by His power.” (Graham Cooke)

How can we boast in our weakness like the Apostle Paul did?

No iPhone 6 for Shanti

FullSizeRender-2

Shanti was not one of the twenty million people who recently purchased an iPhone 6 at $650 and up. Her friends never received texts from Shanti announcing, “I got one! I got one! Come over and look at it. It’s so cool!”

But then again, ten-year old Shanti lives in rural West Bengal, India, which is in Northwestern India, near Nepal and Bangladesh. She also doesn’t have a MacBook Computer, an iPod, flatscreen SONY TV, microwave, closet full of GAP clothing, Pandora Bracelet, and NIKE tennis shoes. Her list of what she doesn’t have includes almost everything we consider as necessities here in America.

You see, Shanti is a Dalit, one of the nearly 300 million people in India who are considered “untouchables.” Her parents are poor because her dad works as an agricultural laborer, earning a couple of dollars per day for his backbreaking efforts. Her mom is a housewife and raises some chickens.

An iPhone 6? It would take all of the family’s income for one year to buy one. So, no iPhone 6 for her.

Shanti was the first Bridge of Hope child that my wife and I began sponsoring over three years ago. Since then, we have communicated often by letters and have sent her photos of us

In one letter she wrote: “God has blessed you so much.”

Her words caused me to reflect for a moment until it dawned on me. Yes, we are so blessed that the Creator of heaven and earth, the Lord God Almighty, our Father would entrust us to help a beautiful girl like Shanti.
