Inside Israel

IMG_0568

Once again, it’s time to hear from our sister in Jerusalem about what she is witnessing there as a believer in Yeshua. Put your prayer shawls on and pray for Israel and Sister J. Now here she is …

Greetings, dear body of Messiah, friends, sisters and brothers, greetings with love and prayer for blessing.  May you be encouraged and blessed and may THE LORD be glorified and find pleasure in His body.

The intense and long holiday season has come to an abrupt end and we have been plunged into the pressure cooker again.  It is an odd feeling to be standing with a tiny country alone against all of the other governments in the world.  The lines seem to be drawn more deeply as the days draw short. There are those who do NOT believe in God but in (the god of) humanism. There are those who fight for other gods, (alla being the most obvious right now). And there are those who believe The One True God, who know and walk with His Son, The Lamb.  It seems to me that the fact that it is a religious battle has become obvious even to skeptics.  Where do we stand in this and HOW do we stand and walk?

My cell phone rang today while I was in prayer. It was a number that might have been important so I answered it.  It turned out to be a most strange call.

“Shalom, Shula?’” the voice said.

“No.  You must have a wrong number,” I answered.

“Who is this?” she asked.

I don’t know why I answered but I did.

“Can I talk to you for a minute?” she asked.

“I’m really busy now, I’m sorry,” I answered, but when she wanted to call back the following day I asked where she was calling from.

“I am from a yeshiva (learning school) that studies kabala,” she said.

Kabala is Jewish mystical studies. Jewish witchcraft in my understanding of witchcraft.  (Feel free to look it up on google.  I don’t want to go into it here)

“I fear God and study Torah (The Old Testament) and Neve’em (Prophets).  I am not interested in kabala,” I said.

“Oh!  We ALSO study Torah,” she continued.

‘Thank you but no, I am not interested.”

I thought the conversation was over, but she asked, “Can I put your name in the cave of the grave of Rabbi Shlomo?”

“No!  Do NOT put my name in any grave!  I stand before The Living God and I do not want my name in any grave or before any Rabbi.”

I had wished that I could tell her more, but I couldn’t for security reasons as she had my name and phone number.  I wanted to tell her that I know The One who WAS dead and in the grave but Who is now ALIVE and owns the keys to death and hell.  As usual I could kick myself when these times pass.  Why didn’t I say more? But then I realized I was still on my knees and could pray for her. God could also prepare me for such opportunities and teach me HOW to MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN LIVES FOR HIM IN THIS TIME AND AGE.

People are discouraged and many have no hope.  The pressure that comes from hearing constant criticism takes a toll.  The pressure that comes from trying to explain again and again what should be evident settles like a yoke around the neck.  When a 3-month old baby and a 21-year old woman were killed last week by a young Palestinian man who purposefully turned into a crowd standing at a train station, a collective pain went through the nation. The USA termed it “a tragic accident.”

But none of this takes God by surprise and that is so comforting!

The tree in front of our merapeset, with which He comforted me, covering me in His sukka just a short time ago, drops more leaves with every shake of the wind.  The deep green is rapidly turning to yellow and brown and I can again see my husband’s shop across the road, no longer obscured by the rich foliage. My flowers are looking old and shivery. Today, as I walked from work to the bus today I took a deep look at the grapevines, fruit trees and abundance of flowering shrubs and they all seemed to be shaking off their summer splendor at once.  It happens subtly and yet it seems to happen suddenly.

How the changing seasons reflect His faithfulness AND His character.

Rolling clouds block the sun and chill the air as helicopters circle above, adding sounds and tension to the heightened police presence through out the “city of peace.” The heart of the conflict.

Humorous articles appeared in the press today depicting the difficulty that Hebrew reporters have had finding the translation of the curse words that were spoken by a US administrative official concerning our Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, which was quoted in a respected American magazine. Curse words are NOT replete in Hebrew so how DO you translate that?

But we need the humor break now and then, as the events of the day/week/month/year have not been funny at all. Following the Gaza war this summer the Hamas leader called upon all Palestinians to take Jerusalem.  Since then there have been daily riots, throwing of rocks and Molotov cocktails, as well as several murders and attacks.

Last night after speaking at a conference concerning Jews praying on the Temple Mount, which is forbidden for Jews to pray there, the speaker was shot and critically wounded by an Arab gunman who was later killed by police.  Simmering tensions boiled over. Today Temple Mount is closed to all.

Temple Mount: (har h’bayit in Hebrew) Mount Moriah − the place where Abraham took Isaac in wonderful obedience to God and then God provided the lamb. The place where the first and second temples were built, where God chose to put His Name, where Jesus, Yeshua, walked, stood, taught, prayed, healed, delivered.  So much more can be said about this tiny spot.

Two older men sat near me on the bus, one sat across from me and the other beside me; “Ah!  What a mess!” the first one said. “He’s a nudnik!  I voted for him and he’s a nudnik!”

He was speaking about our Prime Minister.  The heated world rhetoric has grieved, embarrassed and discouraged many Israelis.

“Ah, but look…just a few weeks ago during the war the US was behind us,” the other man replied.

“I don’t know. It’s bad…bad.”

The first one began referring to the prescribed scriptures. “Remember our fathers Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. Abraham had Isaac AND Ishmael…they were brothers and then Isaac had Jacob and Esau.”

“Yes, they were twins and they struggled and fought in the womb and that is still happening today. We are still fighting with Esau through the Palestinians.”

The other one almost brought me into the conversation when he said “No.  Esau is the father of the Christians.”

My eyes flew wide open and I turned to stare at him.  Wow!  I thought. He sure missed THAT one.

It was time for me to get up and run from the train.

The seasons change. It is in the air, in the colors, in the way people are dressing and walking. As I stood at the train station, an elderly street musician who made aliyah from Siberia began playing our national anthem, ha’tikvah, The Hope.  It is a haunting melody and commands my heart and attention and speaks the words of a prayer.

I looked around and wondered if would any stop? Are they thinking as they hear this?  Are they praying?  It is not often heard in the streets.  Some paces slowed a bit, some faces deepened. I have never heard him play it before.  It arrested me as I tried to embrace the bigger picture swirling around me.  May the hope and the VISION, not die, at least not the part that has been planted by God. May HE water it and dung it and give it the increase 100 fold.  Here are the words translated:

English translation of Hatikvah

As long as deep within the heart

A Jewish soul yearns

And toward the edges of the east

An eye to Zion looks

Our hope is not yet lost

The hope of two thousand years

To be a free people in our Land

The Land of Zion and Jerusalem.

It is time to close this letter and get off to bed.  I am so thankful for His body and thank you for praying His Heart for this season.  God bless and keep you.

Lovingly,

your sister in Jerusalem

8 Exchanges at the Cross

My Aussie friend, Roger Williams, at Reality Revelations had the above video on his blog site. The video is 5 minutes long and well worth viewing, but what caught my attention was when Derek Prince spoke about the 8 exchanges which happened at the cross.

Prince said:

The cross is the center of the whole Christian faith. All the evil that was due us was thrust on Jesus. All the good that was due Jesus was made available to us. At the cross, 8 exchanges took place.

1. Jesus was punished that we might be forgiven.

2. Jesus was wounded that we might be healed.

3. Jesus was made sin with our sinfulness that we might be righteous with His righteousness.

4. Jesus died our death that we might receive His life.

5. Jesus endured our poverty that we might endure His abundance.

6. Jesus bore our shame that we might share His glory.

7. Jesus endured our rejection that we might have His acceptance with God the Father.

8. Jesus was made a curse that we might receive the blessing.

Friday’s Prayers for Prisoners (11/7/2014)

display-thumbnail-gospel-for_asia-RT09-03703

Each Friday I pray and fast for nations where Christians suffer the worst persecution around the world. This week I am praying and fasting for:

Yemen. 27.2 million people with a few thousand Christians (.1 %).

There is some religious freedom for foreigners here, but evangelism is prohibited, and Yemenis who leave Islam may face the death penalty. Muslim-background believers are forced to meet in secret. If their faith is discovered, they face severe persecution from authorities, family, and extremist groups who threaten ‘apostates’ with death if they do not recant. Insecurity caused by Islamist movements makes Yemen very unstable. Christians are believed to be under surveillance by extremists, and ex-pat Christians can be a specific target for these extremist groups. (Open Doors, World Watch List)

Yemen is the poorest country on the Arabian Peninsula, making it susceptible to infiltration by extremist groups.  The country is a haven for Islamic militants, who have kidnapped and held foreigners for ransom…Expressing faith in Jesus is dangerous for Yemenis. It is illegal for non- Muslims to proselytize and for Muslims to convert to Christianity, but expatriates may privately practice religions other than Islam. Yemeni Christian converts from Islam face the death penalty if discovered, and family culture is extremely opposed to conversion. Mosque leaders openly preach an anti-Western message of hate. (Voice of the Martyrs)

Today, I prayed:

Lord, I pray for a thousand Stephens to be raised up in Yemen who are full of grace, power, wisdom, and the Spirit, who do great wonders and signs among the people, and who are willing to debate crowds of Muslims to their faces, not worrying about their lives even unto their deaths. (Based on Acts 6:8-10 and Revelation 12:11)

Join with me on Fridays to fast and pray for prisoners, according to Hebrews 13:3.

Praise the Lord…Pass the Ammo (Part 7)

prophesy1

The morning after my salvation, I jumped out of bed and eventually made my way to the family room. I felt an inner desire to pray. The only problem was that I had been an agnostic for twenty years and no matter how we slice the bologna, agnosticism does not prepare us very well for praying.

The best I could come up with while sitting on the sofa was something like this: “Lord, bless my wife. Bless my son. Bless my daughter. Bless my mom. Bless my dad…” And so forth.

These simple prayers probably seem juvenile to most believers, but to be honest, I still follow the same prayer format today.

For example, when I sold cars, I walked around and introduced myself to everyone at the various dealerships where I worked. During the introductions, I asked the names of their spouses and their children. Then, I prayed and asked God to bless each worker and his family by their individual names each morning.

I do not cease to give thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers (Ephesians 1:16)

From time to time, the Holy Spirit gives me insight or I have personal knowledge so I can pray special prayers for people. But for the most part,  this is the exception rather than the norm for me.

Okay, how does this put my angels to work?

Who carries out our prayers?

Bless the LORD, O you his angels, you mighty ones who do his word, obeying the voice of his word! (Psalm 103:20)

Angels wait for us believers to pray in line with scriptures and true prophetic words so they can carry out our words. In Hebrews, the author refers to these angels as ministering spirits, whose main service is to care for people who will inherit salvation. And guess what? God desires for all to be saved.

In addition, the Greek word sōtēria, which is translated into the English word salvation, not only implies eternal salvation but every blessing from God.

So, when we bless someone, it’s a full mouthful of good stuff for that person.

How would you like to add a little more juice to your prayers?

Islamic Terrorists Versus Radical Christians: New Game. New Rules. (Part 5)

indian terrorist 2

Why are radical Christians needed in the war with Islamic terrorists?

For we are not wrestling with flesh and blood [contending only with physical opponents], but against the despotisms, against the powers, against [the master spirits who are] the world rulers of this present darkness, against the spirit forces of wickedness in the heavenly (supernatural) sphere. (Ephesians 6:12 Amplified)

Let’s start with a question that is not asked often enough: what do Islamic terrorists believe?

They believe that Allah is backing their ventures and that they are doing Allah’s will when they murder infidels (also known as you and me). They believe America is the Great Satan. They believe that their version of Islam is the only true religion and will eventually conquer the world. They also believe that they will be rewarded in Paradise if they are killed in their attempts to kill infidels and fight the Great Satan.

Now, don’t make the mistake of thinking that they are just powerless, clueless  fanatics because nothing could be farther from the truth. A spiritual power guides them and empowers them. Call it the spirit of Babylon. Or the Ishmael spirit. Or the spirit of Islam. But whatever you call it, it is a religious spirit.

And guess what? It is my belief that the ruling spirit over America is a religious spirit.

So, if there is such a thing as a perfect storm, this is it: America’s foes are backed by a religious spirit and at the same time, America is under the power of a religious spirit. As of now, this is a no-can-lose war for Satan.

America absolutely needs radical Christians that know how to fight demonic principalities and powers – AND – are free enough of America’s ruling religious spirit to fight the good fight of faith. This is our only hope for victory.

Tuesday’s Prayers for America (November 4, 2014)

dolly 911

On June 16, 1858, the Illinois Republican Party chose Abraham Lincoln as their candidate for the U. S. Senate to run against Democrat Stephen A. Douglas. That evening Lincoln addressed his Republican colleagues and stated the following:

“A house divided against itself cannot stand.”

I believe this government cannot endure, permanently half slave and half free.

I do not expect the Union to be dissolved — I do not expect the house to fall — but I do expect it will cease to be divided.

It will become all one thing or all the other. (House Divided Speech)

Lincoln’s speech was considered too radical at the time, but Lincoln justified it by saying, “I will deliver it as written. I want to use some universally known figure, expressed in simple language as universally known, that it may strike home to the minds of men in order to rouse them to the peril of the times.”

Although Lincoln lost his senate race with Douglas, his words soon proved to be an accurate prophecy.

Today, I prayed:

Lord, whether our nation remains divided or not after today’s election is in Your hands, so I pray that we believers walk in such perfect unity that our communities will know that we are Your disciples because of our love for one another. (Based on John 17:23 and John 13:35)

What do you think and did the Lord speak to you today?

Got Five Minutes?

Today, (or any Sunday in November), join churches across America in lifting up the persecuted church through unified prayer. If you want, share this video with your congregation or small group, and let them see how their prayers can strengthen believers and expand God’s kingdom into the most unreached places.

Here are the prayer requests mentioned by Pastor Roshan in the above video:

1. Pray that Satan will not discourage the pastors and ministers from serving the Lord.

2. Pray that the Lord will give the pastors and ministers grace to serve Him faithfully.

3. Pray that ministries will grow, with many coming to know Christ and many villages learning about Him.

Just five minutes of your time could make the difference in thousands of lives. And who knows? Someday, you may need them to spend five minutes for you and your family.

Got five minutes?

No iPhone 6 for Shanti

FullSizeRender-2

Shanti was not one of the twenty million people who recently purchased an iPhone 6 at $650 and up. Her friends never received texts from Shanti announcing, “I got one! I got one! Come over and look at it. It’s so cool!”

But then again, ten-year old Shanti lives in rural West Bengal, India, which is in Northwestern India, near Nepal and Bangladesh. She also doesn’t have a MacBook Computer, an iPod, flatscreen SONY TV, microwave, closet full of GAP clothing, Pandora Bracelet, and NIKE tennis shoes. Her list of what she doesn’t have includes almost everything we consider as necessities here in America.

You see, Shanti is a Dalit, one of the nearly 300 million people in India who are considered “untouchables.” Her parents are poor because her dad works as an agricultural laborer, earning a couple of dollars per day for his backbreaking efforts. Her mom is a housewife and raises some chickens.

An iPhone 6? It would take all of the family’s income for one year to buy one. So, no iPhone 6 for her.

Shanti was the first Bridge of Hope child that my wife and I began sponsoring over three years ago. Since then, we have communicated often by letters and have sent her photos of us

In one letter she wrote: “God has blessed you so much.”

Her words caused me to reflect for a moment until it dawned on me. Yes, we are so blessed that the Creator of heaven and earth, the Lord God Almighty, our Father would entrust us to help a beautiful girl like Shanti.

Friday’s Prayers for Prisoners (10/31/2014)

Each Friday I pray and fast for nations where Christians suffer the worst persecution around the world. This week I am praying and fasting for:

Iran. 77.2 million people with 450,000 Christians (o.6%).

Since Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s warning in 2010 of the ever-expanding influence and numbers of house churches, the treatment of Christians has rapidly worsened. The regime tries to destroy those who reach out to converts and seekers by monitoring services, arresting converts, banning Farsi language services and closing some churches. Attacks against Christian communities have increased, and the prohibition of house church activities is enforced more strictly. Yet the regime’s harsh treatment of Christians only further fuels the flames of church growth. (Open Doors, World Watch List)

Iran is a constitutional, theocratic republic that discriminates against its citizens on the basis of religion and belief. Attempts to force political reform in 2011 were quashed by the government, but discontent remains. Young Iranians, who make up a majority of the population, are dissatisfied with both their religion and government. They are very open to the gospel… The evangelical church in Iran is the fastest growing church in the world, according to Operation World. Conservative estimates place the number of Christian Iranian nationals at more than 100,000. Persecution has intensified since 2005. Iran’s state religion is Shiite Islam, and the followers of all other faiths are treated harshly. Protestant pastors are forbidden to preach in Farsi (the official language), restricting them to the Armenian or Assyrian language. Mission organizations are not allowed to enter Iran, and witnessing to Muslims is forbidden. Believers are discriminated against in education, employment and property ownership. Apostates from Islam face the death sentence. Authorities raid house church services, detain worshipers and threaten church members. The publishing, importation or reprinting of Bibles or Christian literature is illegal. But technology is aiding the spread of the gospel. God’s Word is being shared via Internet chat rooms and Christian satellite TV. (Voice of the Martyrs)

Today, I prayed:

Lord, I pray when my brothers and sisters in Iran pass through the waters, that You are with them; that when they walk through the fire, they shall not be burned and the flame shall not consume them. I pray that my brothers and sisters in Iran know that they are precious in Your eyes and are loved and honored by You. (Based on Isaiah 43:2, 4)

Praise the Lord…Pass the Ammo (Part 6)

ppppp

Now I lay me down to sleep,
I pray the Lord my soul to keep,
thy angels watch me through the night,
And keep me safe till morning’s light.

(Childhood prayer)

For four hundred and fifty years, angels were seldom mentioned by Evangelical Christians, except as guardian angels for children. The reason? It was considered too Catholic by Protestants because there were so many Catholic prayers, referring to angels in one way or another.

Then the Charismatic Movement arrived on the scene in the late 1960s with its spirituals gifts, lively praise music, and visions/dreams, some of which were about angels. Charles Capps wrote Angels: Knowing Their Purpose, Releasing Their Power. His book sold 250,000 copies and helped to open our eyes to the importance of angels once again.

Frank Peretti followed up by writing This Present Darkness and Piercing the Darkness, which have sold over 3.5 million copies to date. These two books opened up a new realm of thought for us: spiritual warfare, involving God’s angels versus Satan’s demons.

So, we know a little more about angels than we did fifty years ago, but still, what were God’s angels doing for four hundred and fifty years? Watching I Love Lucy reruns?

One preacher stated that he had a vision of God’s angels standing around and eating chocolate bonbons and pizza. They were fat and getting fatter while they waited for us Christians to put them to work.

We Christians can put angels to work? How do we do that?
