Prayers for Families (1/10/2019)

There was a time when I thought that if I ever got my finances in shape, my health issues under control, my relationships all healed, my sin problems handled and my spiritual life raised to a higher level, I would do amazing things for God.

My focus was spent on reigning over these five areas of my life. But guess what?

No matter how hard I tried, there were always one or two of these five areas that were shipwrecked at any given time. My frustrations agreed with the Apostle Paul when he wrote: “O wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death?”

It took a few years, but I finally decided to check out how Jesus handled stressful circumstances.

Then Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do.” And they divided His garments and cast lots. (Luke 23:34)

Then the thief said to Jesus, “Lord, remember me when You come into Your kingdom.” And Jesus said to him, “Assuredly, I say to you, today you will be with Me in Paradise.” (Luke 23:42-43)

When Jesus therefore saw His mother, and the disciple whom He loved standing by, He said to His mother, “Woman, behold your son!” Then He said to the disciple, “Behold your mother!” And from that hour that disciple took her to his own home. (John 19:26-27)

Jesus on the cross, which had to be His worse time of stress, did not consider His painful circumstances, but cared about others more than Himself. He was a servant to the end and trusted that His Father would deliver Him out of His troubles.

A light turned on inside me when I saw this and thought: “If it worked for Jesus, it will work for me.”

Today, I spend very little time praying for my own issues and most of my time praying for others. It’s not that my problems aren’t big because like yours, they are, but I want to please Him, the One who with just a blink of His eye can turn all of my problems around in a nanosecond.

Okay, for the next few weeks, I plan on praying for families. If yours are like mine, then there are sick members, unsaved ones, troubled marriages and more. If you can, join me.

My prayer today:

Lord, stir up our love for our family members so that we are willing to lay our lives down for them, whether it’s in prayer, fasting or taking a bullet for them. And as You work Your love in us for them, I remind You that Your Word says, “Love never fails.” (Based on 1 Corinthians 13)

Prayers for the American Church (11/13/2018)

How would you like to fight a war with modern weapons, but no ammunition? Or vice versa?

This is pretty much how the American church is heading into the End-times to fight spiritual battles. The Gentile church is missing its Jewish counterparts and the Messianic church is missing its Gentile counterparts.

Jesus created in Himself one new man from Jew and Gentile believers. This one new man is supposed to be one body reconciled by the cross to God. Then this unified body is supposed to make known the manifold wisdom of God to the principalities and powers in the heavenly places.

My prayer today:

Lord, we ask You to fulfill Your words that You would build Your church and the gates of Hell would not prevail against it. (Based on Matthew 16:18)

Join me on Tuesdays to fast and pray for the American church.

Prayers for America (10/11/2018)

“The devil made me do it!” (Flip Wilson)

The recent Justice Brett Kavanaugh and Christine Blasey Ford brouhaha underscores a dismal situation for most American Christians: our lack of spiritual discernment.

So that no advantage would be taken of us by Satan, for we are not ignorant of his schemes. (2 Corinthians 2:11 NASB)

Sadly, we American Christians are ignorant of Satan’s schemes. You see, we allowed the accuser of the brethren (Satan) to manipulate us into being his pawns on social media and elsewhere for dividing the Body of Christ.

Somehow, we have to eventually realize that many of our problems in America are caused by the kingdom of darkness. Our only hope is to follow the King when He leads us so we can advance the Kingdom of God in our nation.

My prayer today:

Lord, open our spiritual eyes so that we can submit to You and then resist the devil. (Based on James 4:7)

What do you think and has the Lord spoken to you today?

Prayers for America (7/5/2018)

In today’s politically correct culture, the phrase –“We are offended” – is the wrench which can be tossed into the gears of a company, a political campaign, Christian outreach, or whatever to stop its forward progress. It is the handy “get out of jail free” card for many opposition forces.

But isn’t it interesting how this phrase has appeared on the scene almost out of nowhere to be an effective tool in such a short period of time? It makes me believe that Satan is setting up American believers for a terrible surprise in the days ahead. Because Jesus said —

These things have I spoken unto you, that ye should not be offended. (John 16:1 KJ)

Then they will deliver you up to tribulation and kill you, and you will be hated by all nations for My name’s sake. And then many will be offended, will betray one another, and will hate one another.(Matthew 24:9-10 NKJ)

Think about His words, okay?

Believers are not to be offended if we are picked on, persecuted, threatened with death, hated by everyone, or even killed in these last days before His return. This is heavy stuff!

So, let’s not let the “We’re offended” crowd deter us from doing the will of God in our lives. Let’s instead use their words to strengthen our love for Jesus and gird up our loins with truth while moving forward against the kingdom of darkness.

My prayer today:

Lord, help American believers to reckon ourselves dead to sin and to not be afraid of people’s scorn or their insults. (Based on Romans 6:11 and Isaiah 53:7)

What do you think and has the Lord spoken to you today?

Prayers for America (4/19/2018)

Jerusalem has been destroyed at least twice, besieged 23 times, attacked 52 times, and captured and recaptured 44 times. The city rests on one of the most hotly contested sites in the history of the world.

Many, including me, believe the original Garden of Eden was centered in Jerusalem. If this is true, the city has been undergoing spiritual warfare for 6000 years, ever since Adam and Eve walked in the Garden and Satan deceived them.

So, there’s no wonder why President Trump is undergoing such hatred by the media and his enemies. Trump was the first president to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital and plans on moving the US Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem on May 14, 2018.

Like most of us, Trump is a flawed person, but God knew his frailties when He chose him to be president of America. I believe Trump’s strength is his stubborn determination to plow forward with his plans, including those for Jerusalem and Israel.

My prayer today:

Lord, raise up people who are willing to stand in the gap before You for President Trump and for Jerusalem during this time period. (Based on Ezekiel 22:30)

What do you think and has the Lord spoken to you today?

Prayers for America (3/1/2018)

Is speaking in tongues still important today?

The Church was baptized in fire and spoke in tongues at the first Pentecost:

And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance. (Acts 2:4)

Twenty years later, Paul made sure the Ephesians spoke in tongues:

And when Paul had laid his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they began speaking in tongues and prophesying. (Acts 19:6)

If the Lord placed such a great emphasis on speaking in tongues in His early Church, why do believers think we can ignore the gift today?

My prayer today:

Lord, forgive us for ignoring and even speaking against the gift of speaking in tongues.  Then once again, pour out Your Spirit upon us so that we speak in tongues and prophesy. (Based on Acts 2:4 and 19:6)

What do you think and has the Lord spoken to you today?

“Storming the Kingdom” is FREE Today on Amazon

Storming the Kingdom Cover

My book, Storming the Kingdom, is FREE on Amazon today through Sunday.

Amazon book description:

Ask most Christians about spiritual warfare and they will usually answer something like, “Well, you know, God is in control.”

If you then ask them to give examples of where God is in control, they will roll their eyes and say, “Everywhere. Don’t you know that?”

But is God really in control?

“We know that we are from God, and the whole world lies in the power of the evil one.” (1 John 5:19)

The truth is spiritual warfare began in the Garden of Eden and the battle rages on today between the Kingdom of God and kingdom of darkness. We are either willing participants or ignorant victims of this continuing war.

“There is no neutral ground in the universe. Every square inch, every split second is claimed by God, and counterclaimed by Satan.” (C. S. Lewis)

Storming the Kingdom is written in four parts, beginning with Part I : “The Kingdom of God.” This section explains the history of today’s spiritual warfare and our spiritual rights as sons and daughters of the King.

Parts II, III, and IV gives examples of spiritual warfare. Some are not very pretty, like the time a demon threw the author across the room and a devastating spiritual defeat in a city.

The book is written in an easy reading style with over one hundred and fifty footnotes to back up the author’s words.

Available on Amazon for Kindles and Kindle apps.

Prayers for America (2/22/2018)

For everything there is a season, a time for every activity under heaven…A time for war and a time for peace. (Ecclesiastes 3:1, 8b)

If I could somehow confront every believer in a face-to-face manner, I would shout, “Wakeup! We’re at war with the kingdom of darkness. Let’s commit ourselves to doing whatever it takes to win.”

My prayer today:

Lord, open American believers’ eyes to the fact that we are not fighting flesh and blood adversaries, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. And that we can only win this war, using Your weapons, not ours. (Based on Ephesians 6:12 and 2 Corinthians 10:4.)

Spiritual Warfare in San Francisco (Part 9)

Seven weeks later, on the first Sunday in February, the sun shone brightly. But we natives knew the weather can change quickly so I carried an umbrella with me as I walked to a local Starbucks. I ordered a large coffee and sat down in an easy chair, which was part of a four-chair setting, surrounding a large round coffee table. The other chairs were empty.

A copy of the Sunday Chronicle lay in the middle of the table. I picked it up and scanned the front page. A bold headline, “Are Christians Acting Crazy Again,” captured my eyes. I thumbed through the newspaper’s pages until I found the full article.

The journalist replayed the words of Bob and the three computer programmers in the telling of a possible nuclear catastrophe occurring in San Francisco. He contrasted the actions with what Christians were doing and saying with what Harold Camping and his zealots did a few years earlier.

Camping’s followers believed his doomsday prophecies, too. They quit their jobs, wasted their money, and then nothing happened. Although the zealots felt the pain of losing everything, their total financial affect on America amounted to less than a drop of water in the Pacific Ocean.

This time was different.

The article estimated 40,000 Christian families packed up and left San Francisco. A few, like Bob, sold their homes and their businesses at deep discounts, but most were less fortunate. The sheer glut of homes dropping onto the real estate and rental markets depressed housing prices in the city almost overnight.

Even more than that, 40,000 Christian families amounted to an estimated total of 156,000 people or 20% of the city’s population. The numbers further broke down into 60,000 job losses, $1.8 billion of gross income losses, and $400 million of tax losses for the city. The losses had already begun to fuel layoffs at schools and retail stores. The Christians shredded San Francisco’s economy into pieces by their mass departures.

“What do you think of the article about the Christians?”

I lowered the paper and looked at a middle-aged woman with green eyes sitting in a chair across from me. Her deep voice did not match her petite shape and thin lips. Although not beautiful, her face had an alluring radiance about it.

“I don’t know what to think,” I replied.

“Do you think God will destroy San Francisco because the city cares about gays and lesbians?”

I shrugged.

“Good question.”

“Or do you think God is just mean?”

“I don’t know.”

“Well, I do.”

“Really?”

“Yes, I do,” she said, moving forward in her seat. “God is a God of love. He loves gays and lesbians. He loves people. He would never allow San Francisco to be bombed. Those fundamentalists are so deceived…they just make me want to scream.”

I laughed.

“My name is Jackson Edwards. What’s yours?”

“Holly Brightman.”

“Do you always get so worked up over fundamentalist Christians?”

“Yes, I do. My dad pastored a fundamentalist church forty years ago. I’ve listened to a thousand sermons about how God is always angry with sinners. It wasn’t until I attended Berkeley that I learned there are progressive Christians who understand God is a God of love.”

“Sounds interesting.”

She looked at her watch and jumped up.

“I have to go. I have a meeting at 9, but maybe we’ll see each other again,” she said, waving her hand and heading toward the door.

I watched her leave, wishing I had asked for her phone number.

Talk radio, TV, and other media ranted about the newspaper article over the next week and how San Francisco’s citizens were left holding the bag because of the Christians’ departure. Politicians jumped into the fray, adding their two bit’s worth. Some even advocated bills not allowing new churches to be opened in the Bay Area.

Everyone had an opinion about the Christians and why they left San Francisco.

(Excerpt from Deceived Dead and Delivered by Larry Nevenhoven, © 2013, Amazon eBook)

Would God ever ask every Christian to leave San Francisco, or for that matter, any city? Has He ever done that?

In 68 AD, a prophecy warned every Christian to leave Jerusalem and they did. Two years later, Jerusalem was destroyed by the Roman army under General Titus. The Romans slaughtered one million Jews.

Prayers for America (7/21/2017)

11160680_10202970551704040_6853963304935390655_n

Jesus spoke a parable about a judge who did not fear God nor care about people. A widow repeatedly came to him, asking for help against her enemy. The judge ignored her for a while, but her persistence wore him down.

“This woman is driving me crazy. So, I’m going to see she gets justice because she is wearing me out with her constant requests,” he said.

Jesus declared that we need to learn a lesson from this unjust judge because even he rendered a just decision in the end. The Lord said:

“And will not God give justice to His elect, who cry to Him day and night? Will He delay long over them? I tell you, He will give justice to them speedily. Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will He find faith on earth?” (Luke 18:7-8)

My prayer today:

Lord, help American believers to realize that it is impossible to please You without faith, knowing that You not only exist but that You reward those who diligently seek You. (Based on Hebrews 11:6)

What do you think and has the Lord spoken to you today?
