Where’s America’s Most Important Church Located?

Christ Church Stellarton

Is America’s most important church located in Lake Forest, California? At Pastor Rick Warren’s Saddleback Church.

Or in Houston? At Pastor Joel Osteen’s Lakewood Church.

Or how about South Barrington, Illinois? At Pastor Bill Hybel’s Willow Creek Church.

Or maybe it’s your personal church where you go an hour or two each week to hear a sermon that may change your life?

No. No. No. No to all of the above.

For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and shall be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh. This mystery is great; but I am speaking with reference to Christ and the church. (Ephesians 5:31-32)

The most important church in America is your home … with you and your spouse as the main members.

So, is your home a house of prayer?

  1. Hmmm… say more. explain your thoughts here, beyond the verse…

  2. Cindy,

    Good question.

In Ephesians 5:22 – 33, the Apostle Paul explains the mystery of the church. He likens it to a marriage between a husband and wife with Jesus being the husband and the church being the wife.

Then, using Matthew 19:20, which states: “when two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them.”

Thus, if husband and wife are gathered together via marriage in the name of Jesus, He is in their midst. The Head – Jesus – is in their midst. They are the living stones (2 Peter 2:5) of the spiritual house with Jesus as the head.

The church is not a building. It is the ekklesia, or the assembly of believers. It is alive…but it needs two members to bring the head – Jesus – into their midst.

So, the most important church in America is the husband and wife. When that church is strong, the gates of Hell will not prevail against the Church (corporate).

  3. important, indeed…

I’m not sure I submit to a heirarchy within the ‘church’ however…
    If someone is single,
I don’t view them as less important in the Body of Christ…
I know that’s not where you are going with this… but the language of exclusion can be hurtful to many of my friends who are not married.

Check out my blog today, you will see a bunch of obviously unmarried people doing amazing work in the Body. We’re on the same point… just…

you know me, I like the underdog!! peace!! Cindy

  4. Cindy,

    Good point.

Actually, the church lives in each person. As someone wrote, it’s written on our spiritual DNA. We each are a “living stone.”

The article was written in a generalized format and is not meant to be exclusionary. The Apostle Paul was unmarried and single…and he obviously contributed greatly to the Church.

Cindy, what I like about you is that you challenge writing rather than just accept it.

  5. my boss finds it annoying. : )
