Do we really believe demons are a big cause of our problems in America?

Here’s a fact: 68% of church going men view porn on a regular basis.

To back up the above figures: 76% of young adult Christians (18-24 years old) regularly seek out porn.

Then they were all amazed and spoke among themselves, saying, “What a word this is! For with authority and power He commands the unclean spirits, and they come out.” (Luke 4:36)

We are to be like Jesus while we live in this world. If He had authority and power to cast out unclean spirits, then we also should have the same authority and power.

Okay, then why aren’t we casting out demons?

There are probably many answers including bad teaching, lack of fasting, lack of prayer, lack of faith, reliance on psychology and counseling, deception by Satan, and so forth. But remember this — these answers are really excuses for not wholeheartedly seeking the Lord and then a willingness to follow His directions.

My prayer today:

Lord, raise up a generation of American believers who are willing to pay the price of seeking Your anointing to release the captives and set the oppressed free from the bondages placed on them by the kingdom of darkness. (Base on Luke 4:18)

What do you think and has the Lord spoken to you today?

Join with me on Thursdays to fast and pray for America.

  1. I thought I wrote a relevant post to this one a while back, but I searched and could not find it. Perhaps it wasn’t a post.

Anyway, my story was, as usual, fairly lengthy with two or three layers to it. But the nub of it was when I got a hotel room a few years back and flipped on the TV and suddenly was confronted with images I had not gone looking for, but which were quite seductive.

I wont claim that I have always won such a battle, but I will point out two things as I describe this one.

    1) When I was a kid if you wanted to look at porn, you had to go hunt for it. It wasn’t hard to find, but you had to hunt it down all the same. Now… these days, porn hunts you. You can be minding your business and the stuff jumps out of the bushes and grabs you when you don’t expect it. I mean, even the swimsuit mags at the checkout stand at my grocery store beckon to my weakness and suggest I should not be satisfied at home, but I really do want to try Red Head, or Asian girl, or whatever…. And I was just here for the milk and eggs! Hmmm… I think we need to unite in prayer and accountability as Christian brothers and really talk about this one. No man is an island of strength unto himself. Your numbers above bear that out. And that is just the regular viewers. What about the irregular viewers???

    2) I battled a demon in that hotel room that night. On my own strength, I could not lift my thumb to mash the off button on the remote control. I just couldn’t do it. I was fascinated and mortified, and found curiosity in myself I did not know before that moment. It was shocking how quickly I was ready to betray my Jesus, my own ideals, (and if I had time to tell the whole story, the irony of this would be all the more clear!).

I felt myself being torn, and so I cried out to Jesus. And then I told the TV: Jesus is Lord! Jesus is LORD!! JESUS IS LORD!!!

What can I say? About the 3rd or 4th time I said it, suddenly my thumb moved to the off switch.

I lay there still announcing that Jesus is Lord to the dark room and feeling the cold presence of the demon as it realized it had been beaten. A moment later, it was gone and I settled into a deep sleep, almost like a dead man. But I was saved from the demon. And the prayer, the announcement, the utterance of the Name made the thing flee!

    Praise the Lord!!!

  2. Agent X,

Great story. You successfully fought off the demon so it didn’t end up owning you, but what percentage of the men who are regular viewers of porn could do the same? I don’t know the answer, but I would guess it’s not a large amount.

So, we need thousands of believers who have the anointing to help set these captives free. If Jesus cast out unclean spirits, we should expect to do the same, but we have to do it His way.

  3. Perhaps I should note that I am telling a tale of one time I came out on the winning side. There are hundreds of times I did that, actually. And perhaps thousands of times I did not.

And not all just porn either.

I wrote sometime back about “divorce care” at church. In my experience that is a brothel at church. It will make your head spin! And we have it right in the church! Goes unacknowledged every Sunday. But it’s there.

I am so glad to have a Christian wife. It takes a lot of work, but there is real rest involved too.

  4. Thank you, Mr. Larry , for how you keep shining a light on spiritual warfare. I have a question. Is there a way to know if we have a sin problem versus a demonic problem. Or is it all the same? Blessings and hope!

  5. Debbie,

That’s a good question. Demons only work in darkness or sin. So, does America have a sin problem? Yes. Because of sin, we then have a demon problem. God bless you.

  6. Thank you, Mr. Larry! Great answer and it makes perfect sense!
