How to be a Radical Christian. (iv)

Would you have liked to travel along with the Apostle Paul on one of his journeys? Consider Silas’ experience in Acts 16: 11-40.

In the city of Philippi, Paul and Silas are doing some street ministry. Paul casts a spirit of divination out of a slave girl. Instead of being thankful for the girl’s deliverance, the owners are enraged and stir up the crowd against the two men.

Next, the city magistrates step into the melee,  rip the clothes off the two, beat them with cudgels, scourge them with a whip, toss them into prison,  and fasten their feet into stocks so that they can’t move.

Then, somehow, at midnight, Paul and Silas began praying and singing hymns. The power of God hits the place. Cell doors were opened. The jailer’s life was spared. The jailer’s household was saved. Paul and Silas were washed and fed. And then, returned to prison.

The next morning, the magistrates send some go-fors to release Paul and Silas from their cells. But what does Paul do? He says, “No way, Jose! We ain’t leaving this dandy place until the men responsible for putting us here come and say, ‘Pretty please with chocolate syrup all over it.’ Don’t even try to make us go. We ain’t moving!”

What do you think was going through Silas’ mind? He was bloody. He was sore. He was stiff. He was tired. And he might have been thinking something like this: “Paul is a radical nut! How can he possibly believe that those men will come here and beg us to leave?”

How? Paul had radical faith in God.

And radical Christians need this same type of faith to oppose Islamic terrorists.

But without faith, it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. (Hebrews 11:6)

How to be a Radical Christian. (iii)

For I am not shamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek.  (Romans 1:16)

Have you ever shuddered or cringed a little when someone mentioned the name of Jesus to somebody? Maybe at work or at a ballgame. Maybe, you thought to yourself, there are proper places and times to talk about Jesus, but not here, and not now.

Well, have you heard the tradition surrounding the apostle Paul’s last few moments on earth? Talk about bad timing and bad places.

Emperor Nero arrested Paul for insurrection and threw him into prison. The apostle’s first stay in prison had resulted in most of the guards and many in Nero’s household converting to Christianity. So this time, Nero made sure that Paul had little contact with people or visitors.

On the day of Paul’s execution, Nero allowed just a few spectators and only the most hardened, veteran soldiers to escort the apostle to the execution site, outside Rome on the Tiber River.

Paul was unfazed by his fast approaching martyrdom. He preached the gospel as he walked along. His words touched the hearts of more than one soldier; and they, too, were executed with Paul that day.

Just think, Paul so believed in the life-giving message of the gospel that he was willing to seal the fates of any last-minute converts to the same death that was pronounced over him: beheading.

Now, that is a radical love for the gospel.

And that is what every radical Christian must have. A love for the gospel that can only be extinguished by the death of the believer.

How to be a Radical Christian (ii).

If I speak with the tongues of men and of angels… (1 Cor. 13:1)

Now, I wish that you all spoke in tongues… (1 Cor. 14: 5

I thank God, I speak in tongues more than you all do. (1 Cor. 14: 18)

Once again, I can hear the groans and the shouts. “Not tongues. Anything but that trivial twaddle. I ain’t doing it. No siree – no tongues for me. Never!”

Okay, relax. Take a deep, deep breath. Hold it for a minute or so. Now breathe out. Continue reading.

Let’s return to the same scenarion as Part 2. Your family is staying at the luxurious Berverly Wilshire Hote (where Pretty Woman was filmed), just off Rodeo Drive in Berverly Hills, California. Your wife and daughter are enjoying the shopping spree, and you are carrying enough plastic to pay for everything.

Then, three Mumbai-type terrorists enter the hotel lobby, AK-47’s blazing away and hand grenades exploding. Chaos and confusion reigns as dead bodies hit the floor.

Somehow, you grab your wife and daughter, and hide in a first floor cafe. As you crouch behind a table, you hear the sounds of people begging for their lives and the lives of their children. But then, bursts from the AK-47’s lets you know that mercy is not a part of the terrorists’ makeup.

You hear their footsteps approaching the cafe. It will only be seconds before they enter the door. You look at your wife and daughter, tears are streaming down their faces; they don’t want to die. They want you to do something. Anything. Just do something.

Are you going to pray? If so, how?

Now remember, your mind will be a pile of mush. You will have thoughts about wishing you would have stayed home, or should have gone to Hawaii instead of California, or spending a nice sunny day anywhere but not where you are at that moment. Plus, the fear, not wanting your family to die, and total confusion.

How will you quiet your mind to pray at that moment?

Likewise, the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which can not be uttered.

Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God. (Romans 8: 27-28)

Remember: Radical Christians do not care what others think. They swim upstream against the religious current.

How to be a Radical Christian (i.)

Pursue love, yet desire earnestly spiritual gifts, but especially that you may prophesy. (1 Corinthians 14:1)

Maybe your first thought is, “Yuck! Who wants this Pentecostal/Charismatic phoney baloney spiritual gifts-type of stuff. Not me!”

Relax. Take a deep breath. Now, continue reading.

Let’s say that you and your wife take your daughter to the mall. She is three years old and dressed up in just the  cutest Bambi t-shirt and jeans outfit. Everyone looks at her and smiles. She’s a doll and you adore her, and would do anything for her.

But because you were in a hurry when you left home, you did not use the restroom, and you need to go – now. You tell your wife.  She rolls her eyes and says, “Oh honey, use the one in Macy’s Department Store. We’ll wait here for you by the kids play area.”

You rush to the restroom, do your duty, wash your hands and leave. As you walk back from of the store, you see a flash and hear an explosion from an Islamic terrorist’s bomb. It knocks you down. Glass particles and debris are all over you.

Brushing yourself off, you run to where you wife and daughter were waiting. When you get there, you see bodies all over the floor. Somehow, you find your wife and daughter. They’re dead; blood all over them.

Now, what are you going to do?

Are you going to call the police? Or the doctor? Or your pastor? Or the funeral home? Or are you just going to fall down and cry?

You see, at this disastrous moment, you need the gift of faith, the gift of healing, and the gift of miracles to try and raise your loved ones from the dead (1 Corinthians 12: 9-10). And I guarantee that you would do anything to have these gifts at that time, wouldn’t you?

So, what’s stopping you from seeking the spiritual gifts? Pride. Bad teaching. Laziness. What?

Remember: Radical Christians do not care what others think. They swim upstream against the religious current.

So, What Is The Lord Saying Or Doing? (12/10/2008)

It is my belief that we Christians depend too much on what an individual pastor or an individual prophet or another anointed person thinks that he (or she) is hearing from the Lord, rather than trying to hear for ourselves or listening to many different voices from all over the Body of Christ. Dependence on just an anointed few is a guaranteed recipe for failure.

So, each day, I invite you to write what you believe the Lord is telling you, showing you, or doing for you. Testimonies. Short teachings. Prophetic words. Scriptures. Prayers. Whatever you believe that the Body of Christ needs to know or will be blessed by hearing. Try to keep your words under 250 words. And if you need to, attach a link to your site for longer messages.

Why are radical Christians needed in this war with radical terrorists?

For we are not wrestling with flesh and blood [contending only with physical opponents], but against the despotisms, against the powers, against [the master spirits who are] the world rulers of this present darkness, against the spirit forces of wickedness in the heavenly (supernatural) sphere. (Ephesians 6:12 Amplified Trans.)

Let’s start with a question that is not asked often enough: what do radical terrorists believe?

They believe that Allah (or God) is backing their ventures and that they are doing Allah’s will when they murder infidels (also known as you and me). They believe America is the Great Satan. They believe that their version of Islam is the only true religion and will eventually conquer the world. And they believe that they will be rewarded in Paradise if they are killed in their attempts to kill infidels and fight the Great Satan.

Now, don’t make the mistake of thinking that they are just powerless, clueless  fanatics because nothing could be farther from the truth. A spiritual power guides them and empowers them. Call it the spirit of Babylon. Or the Ishmael spirit. Or the spirit of Islam. But whatever you call it, it is a religious spirit.

And guess what? It is my belief that the ruling spirit over America is a religious spirit.

So, if there is such a thing as a perfect storm, this is it: America’s foes are backed by a religious spirit; and at the same time, America is under the power of a religious spirit. As of now, this is a no-can-lose war for Satan.

America absolutely needs radical Christians that know how to fight demonic principalities and powers – AND – are free of America’s ruling religious spirit. This is our only hope for victory.

I happened to listen to Bryan Suits on the radio while I was driving the car yesterday. His show, Dark Secret Place, deals with terrorism, fighting in Iraq, and other related stories.

He talked about when he was an officer in Iraq and how the loss of one of his soldiers via an IED  (improvised explosive device) led him to a discussion with an Iraqi cleric.

“Do you want to know how to stop IED’s and roadside bombs?” said the cleric.

“Sure,” said Lt. Suits.

“When you enter a town, grab a ten-year old boy and tie him to the front of your Humvee. Then , when you are leaving the town, untie the boy and let him go. The IED’s will stop.”

Suits said that he was shocked by the cleric’s statement, and told the man that American soldiers would rather die than use an innocent boy as a shield. It was a barbarous, cowardly act.

The cleric shrugged his shoulders as if to say, “Okay, that’s up to you.”

No matter how the news media and the anti-war movement have portrayed our American soldiers, our military will not resort to any means possible to win the war against radical terrorists. And sadly, the terrorists use this noble characteristic as a weapon against us.

Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. (Romans 12:21)

Paul ‘Bear’ Bryant, football coach of the University of Alabama, said, “It’s not the will to win that matters – everyone has that. It’s the will to prepare to win that matters.”

The days of unskilled shoe bombers are over. Instead,  America can expect to see Mumbai-type terrorists. Radical. Dedicated. Trained. Armed. Willing to die. Filled with hate. Hoping to kill large numbers of innocent men, women, and children before they exhale their last breath.

These terrorists want to win. They are prepared.

To counter these radical terrorists, America needs radical Christians who are dedicated, trained, armed, filled with love, willing to die for their family and neighbors, and hoping to be life-giving witnesses to terrorists and others until they die.

I wish I could say that all of us Christians are prepared and ready to go. Or even a quarter of us. But the truth is that most (99%) of us are not dedicated. Not trained. Not armed (with spiritual weapons). We are bogged down with the cares of this world, the deceitfulness of riches, and the desires for other things (Mark 4:19).

But guess what? The radical terrorists will pay no heed to our excuses. They will kill you, me, our spouses, our children, our grandchildren, our neighbors, and whosoever, if we are not prepared.

So, we need to make up our minds now.

Because when the terrorist attacks hit us, our president, our governors, our mayors, our city council members, our police, and the national guard will not be able to help us. They will be too late. Only the DMORT teams will arrive on time to stuff us and our loved ones into body bags.

How do you defend a city or a nation against dedicated, radical terrorists like Kasav?

To be honest, there is no way to stop dedicated, radical terrorists from entering America and duplicating a Mumbai incident, especially if they have been trained. America’s strength is that we are an open society. Sadly, this is also our weakness in fighting terrorism. And if you couple our openness with a national “It won’t happen to us” attitude, we’re sitting ducks, just waiting to be plucked.

So, let’s say that you’re staying with your family at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel (where the movie,Pretty Woman, was filmed), just off Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills, California. Terrorists arrive and begin shooting their AK-47’s and exploding grenades, killing and maiming everyone they see. Confusion and havoc reigns.

Somehow you’re able to barricade yourself and your family in a first floor cafe. You hear the terrorists walking your direction.  Who can you expect to help you?

Will the president help you? He’ll make a statement on TV, deploring terrorism, and will probably add, “Most Muslims are good people. These are just a few bad eggs!” After all, he needs the Muslim vote in the next election and doesn’t want to offend CAIR.

Will the governor help you? This is California, not Texas; so, the Governor will first take a quick telephone poll to discover what the people think. You know, he’s running for senator and the election will be a close one. He also will appear on TV, deplore terrorism, announce that he is considering all options, even calling out the National Guard, and will take a helicopter to the scene.

Will the mayor and city council help you? These guys will be relegated to low-level radio interviews. And of course, they will deplore terrorism, yada, yada, yada.

What about the police? They and their SWAT teams will surround the hotel. Phone calls will be made to the governor, mayor, police chief, and whoever else needs to be contacted about weighing all of the pros and cons before taking action. Valuable time will pass before a decision is made.

What about a DMORT team? This is the one positive that will happen almost immediately. A Disaster Mortuary Operational Response Team from Region IX will be dispatched as soon as they hear about the attack. They will bring victim identification equipment, body bags, and storage units for the expected dead people.

So, what can we do?

Islamic Terrorists Vs. Radical Christians: New Game. New Rules. (Part 1)

india-terrorist2

Azam Amir Kasav

When you look at the 21-year old terrorist, Azam Amir Kasav’s face, what do you see?  A good-looking youth who should be at a college, preparing himself for a future career. Maybe having a beer or two with buddies on Fridays nights. Maybe dating a soccer cheerleader on Saturday nights. All in all, just being young and doing what youths do, right?

But the facts are that Kasav trained for months, gobbled steroids to buff up his body, and dedicated his life, along with his dead compatriots, in the hope of killing 5,000 innocent people. 5,000 people. They hoped to kill until their last, dying breaths.

Now, most soldiers are trained and committed to being warriors. If  occasions should arise, and combat actions are needed, they will fight. Yet, in the back of their minds, they will desperately want to live. This is a normal reaction by normal men in peril. Thus, most soldiers’ combat actions will be toned down according to a calculated risk/reward ratio on the battle field.

Not so these terrorists. They are committed to killing and dying! No risk is too severe or too challenging for them.

How do you defend a city or a nation against dedicated, radical terrorists like Kasav?

Hmm! Maybe, you don’t really want to think about Mumbai-type terrorist attacks happening in your neighborhood.  After all, nothing has happened since 911. Why stir up fears and anxiety, right?
