If We Just Ignore Gays, They’ll Go Away, Right? (Part 5)

IMG_1797

The Bible doesn’t tell us dates, such as on August 17, year 98 of Creation, Adam and Eve sinned and were driven out of the Garden of Eden. Yet, we are given a few clues.

And Adam lived one hundred and thirty years, and begot a son in his own likeness, after his image and named him Seth. (Genesis 5:3)

When Seth was born, Adam’s oldest son Cain had already killed Abel. So, how old were Cain and Abel when this tragic first murder happened? We don’t know for sure, but both were productive young men. Maybe they were in their mid-20s.

Thus, let’s guess that Adam was in the age range of 90 to 100 years when he sinned in the Garden of Eden.

At the same time, we don’t know exactly how old Satan was when he rebelled against God, but I do think that Satan and all of the angels were only a few days older than Adam. In fact, Jewish theologians believe all of the angels — including Satan — were created on the second day of Creation or earlier.

Adam, Eve, Satan and his demonic horde, and God’s angels grew up together in the Garden of Eden. Did Adam and Eve know Satan? We don’t have a clue about that, but Satan certainly understood the couple because he knew their weaknesses.

…And he said to the woman, “Has God indeed said, ‘You shall not eat of every tree of the garden?'” And the woman said to the serpent, “We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden; but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God has said, ‘You shall not eat it, nor shall you touch it, lest you die.” And the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die. For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” (Genesis 3:1-5)

Eve was deceived and ate the fruit. Adam, who was standing next to his wife, openly rebelled against God and also ate the fruit.

Thus, Adam and Eve disobeyed the revealed word of God, believed the lie of Satan, and placed their own desires above God’s will for them.

For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 6:23)

So, how does this apply to gays?

“Are We There Yet?” (Part 7)

“I’m not under the Law. I’m under grace.”

The above words have slipped off my tongue hundreds of times over the last thirty years, but are they really true?

For sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under Law but under grace. (Romans 6:14 NKJ)

When I used to read the word “Law” in the New Testament, I immediately connected it to the Old Testament and assumed that the word “Law” was a bad thing, but of course, I never checked the word out.

The Hebrew word “torah” is translated into our English word “Law” in both the Old and New Testaments. Yet the true meaning of the Hebrew word “torah” is not “Law”, but rather, “instructions or teaching.”

Thus, should I be under the instructions or teaching of God?

“Do not think that I came to destroy the Law [Torah] or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill. (Matthew 5:17)

The word Law (or Torah) in the above verse refers to the Pentateuch or the first five books of the Old Testament: Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy. And the word Prophets refers to the books of Isaiah, Jeremiah, Lamentations, Ezekiel, Daniel, and the other prophetic books with Malachi being the last one.

Admittedly, for thirty years, I have looked at the above verse and believed that since Jesus fulfilled the Law or Torah, I did not have to do so. My attitude was — “Thank you Jesus, I can ignore the Law or Torah and its requirements and just follow the red letters in the New Testament.”

I know! I know! I know!

My logic was childish at best because one of my favorite sayings, “Anyone who believes in Me will do the works I am doing and greater ones because I go to the Father,” blows this logic to pieces. You see, one of Jesus’ works was following the Law or Torah.

“…I came not to destroy, but to fulfill.” And surely to ‘fulfill’ means to complete, in the sense of bringing to perfection, not, as Christians have all too often interpreted it, to render it obsolete; but to fulfill in such a way as to perfect a foundation on which to build further. (Christian Jewish Heritage, Western Sussex: Angel Press, 1988, p. 8 via Jewish New Testament Commentary by David H. Stern, Jewish New Testament Publications, 1992, p. 26)

The Apostle Paul wrote:

Does it follow that we abolish Torah by this trusting? Heaven forbid! On the contrary, we confirm Torah. (Romans 3:31 Complete Jewish Bible by David H. Stern, Jewish New Testament Publications, 1998, p. 1408)

Am I there yet? Heavens no! I have many miles to go yet.

So, stay buckled up until next time.

Thursday’s Prayers for America (10/15/2015)

IMG_0011

The church at Antioch had just finished the meal when an elder, a man with stooped shoulders, pushed back his chair and stood up. He held up his hands for quiet and looked around at the group.

“Brothers and sisters, we have just received some good news from the church in Jerusalem. They’re sending someone to help us,” he said.

Everyone talked at once. The voices of the fifteen believers blended into a loud roar throughout the home’s one-room living area.

A deep booming voice shouted above the clamor, “Who are they sending? One of the apostles, like Peter or John?”

The group all spoke at once, agreeing with the man’s choices, but also giving their opinion on which of the two would be their personal favorites. There was an underlying fervor to see other believers and hear their testimonies.

The elder laughed and shook his head at the commotion. He motioned with his hands, quieting the assembly.

“No – not Peter or John. A man named Barnabas should be arriving in a few days. He’s a good man, full of the Holy Spirit and faith. We will be blessed by his visit.”

Everyone sat quiet for a few moments. No one had heard of Barnabas.

One young believer leaned over to his dark haired wife.

“What do you think Barnabas will say?” he whispered.

A week later, Barnabas stood on the deck of the Roman merchant ship as it approached the wharf in Antioch. He saw ships with Italian olive oil being unloaded on one side of the harbor while other ships were being loaded with Syrian grain on another side. A Roman navy trireme sat anchored to a dock with its three tiers of oars out of the water. A cohort of Roman soldiers watched over the dock.

The three hundred mile cruise had been uneventful with no storms and only gentle breezes propelling the ship. But still, Barnabas appeared eager, almost antsy, to step onto dry land once again. He had spent the three-day trip, pacing back and forth on the galley’s deck, oblivious to everything around him. The other passengers smiled when he walked by, thinking an evil spirit tormented him. Nothing could have been further from the truth.

An inner desire consumed Barnabas about knowing a specific truth about the church at Antioch. His continued pleas to the Lord about the issue had been met with silence.

Shouts from the wharf interrupted his thoughts.

“Barnabas! Barnabas! Wave your hands at us so we can see you. We have come from the church to greet you.”

Barnabas saw three men waving at the ship and went to the ship’s fore rail and waved his arms.

“I’m Barnabas! It’s great to see you, my brothers!” he shouted.

After what seemed like hours, Barnabas disembarked and ran to the threesome. He hugged and greeted them. Introductions were made amid the noisy clamor of the docks.

Barnabas could not contain himself any longer. He looked at them, with tears streaming down his cheeks.

“Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you first believed?”

(Excerpt from Deceived Dead and Delivered by Larry Nevenhoven, 2013, an Amazon eBook)

The above is a fictional story, but it agrees with Acts 8:14-17 and Acts 19:2-6.

So, if the early church needed the gifts of the Holy Spirit, how much more do we need them now?

My prayer for America today:

Lord, I pray that American believers pursue love with eagerness, but that we also earnestly desire and cultivate the spiritual gifts, especially that we may prophesy. (Based on 1 Corinthians 14:1 Amplified Version)

What do you think and has the Lord spoken to you today?

Join with me on Thursdays to fast and pray for America.

If We Just Ignore Gays, They’ll Go Away, Right? (Part 4)

IMG_1797

What was God thinking about when He placed Adam in the Garden of Eden? Didn’t He know that the much more clever serpent (Satan) would attempt to take the Kingdom away from man through deceit and spiritual warfare?

This is a plain indication of God’s righteous judgment so that you will be considered worthy of the kingdom of God, for which indeed you are suffering. (2 Thessalonians 1:5)

God wants royal sons and daughters who are worthy of His kingdom. He wants His royal family to learn how to trust, obey, and worship Him in all situations, but achieving this status takes time, training, and testing of our faith in Him.

For Adam and Eve, the Garden of Eden was their classroom. They were trained over a period of time, maybe even decades, and then the serpent (Satan) administered their final test to them.

Now, remember: Adam and Eve had authority to rule over everything on the earth as God’s ambassador. They could have ordered the serpent to shut up and go away, but they didn’t use their authority that day to do so. Instead, they listened, believed the serpent’s lies, and sinned.

If you are faithful in little things, you will be faithful in large ones. But if you are dishonest in little things, you won’t be honest with greater responsibilities. (Luke 16:10 NLT)

Because Adam was unfaithful with the handling of His authority to rule in the Garden of Eden and to keep just one commandment, Adam never did receive full authority to rule over the whole earth.

Therefore, Adam’s treason in the Garden resulted in his − and through his lineage − all of mankind’s spiritual death, a life apart from the Spirit of God. So, instead of being a son in the Kingdom of God with royal benefits, Adam and all the rest of mankind after him became slaves in the kingdom of darkness, under the cruel god of this world: Satan.

But even with Adam’s failure, our Father had another garden and a second Adam in mind so the Kingdom of God would eventually rule on earth.

(Excerpt from Storming the Kingdom by Larry Nevenhoven, 2014, an Amazon eBook)

Adam’s sin resulted in the fall of mankind in the Garden of Eden, but sadly, another fall happened there. God’s government on earth fell so that the god of this world became Satan along with his demonic horde.

Tuesday’s Prayers for Prisoners (10/13/2015)

Children's Church markpeddar.wordpress.com

markpeddar.wordpress.com

Have you ever wondered if I always fast on Tuesdays and Thursdays or do I sometimes fake it? You know, write the article and then go out for a large pepperoni pizza at Papa Johns. Who would know, right? So, here’s my rule of thumb: if I don’t write an article, I didn’t fast that day. Simple enough, okay?

But all rules have exceptions…even this one.

Today, I took my wife to breakfast at the Swing Inn Cafe in Old Town Temecula. There was no specific reason for doing so, except that it felt right according to my spirit. Fasting, like almost everything else, has to be backed by the Holy Spirit because the Spirit gives our efforts life whereas just following the letter of the law will always bring death.

Today, I prayed:

Lord, I come boldly to Your throne of grace asking for Your mercy and grace to fall upon the people of Asia in their time of need. (Based on Hebrews 4:16)

Join with me on Tuesdays to fast and pray for prisoners in Asia, according to Hebrews 13:3.

Why Asia?

1. 4.4 billion people live in Asia.

2.. 85.4% of world’s unevangelized people live in Asia. (Unevangelized means they may have heard the gospel but have no understanding on how to respond.)

3. The world’s three largest non-Christian religions – Muslim, Hindu, and Buddhists – are based in Asia.

4. Of the 37 countries of the world that are less than 10% Christian, 32 are in Asia. Of the 14 countries, that are less than 2% Christian, 12 are in Asia.

5. 85-90% of unreached people live in Asia. (Unreached means that they have never heard the name of Jesus.) (Operation World: The Definitive Prayer Guide to Every Nation)

Inside Israel

The Shuk in Jerusalem

The Shuk in Jerusalem

Once again, it’s time to hear from our sister in Jerusalem about what she is witnessing there as a believer in Yeshua. Put your prayer shawls on and pray for Israel and Sister J. Now here she is —

Greetings, Brothers and sister,

May we bathe in the abundant fullness of life that He has given us in Himself, and bring glory ONLY to His Name.

“Looking unto Him” was my word to keep at the forefront of my life this year. Keeping this exhortation at the forefront of my year has greatly impacted my life and I intend to KEEP it at the forefront.  Indeed, it is the battle call of the day. SURELY this is the message that I need − and maybe you too − in these days ahead of us, just to survive.

I was amazed to hear from many of you that what is happening here in Israel is not generally being reported in the western media at all. So you need to know that our area is exploding.

You need to know so that you can pray and so that you yourself can be prepared for the seriousness of the hour.  May The Lord direct me as I write for His glory.

I have just come back from running errands and also meeting a sister down town. Usually it is bustling on a Sunday morning, but today it is tense and quiet.  In most of the places that I went to do errands, I was the ONLY customer in the shop.  Even in the supermarket there were just a handful of people.  My husband just told me that he has had no customers so far today. None.

Thursday, on the way to work, I watched the familiar “first alert” motorcycle park in front of the synagogue across from the doctor’s office where I work.  I don’t know how many other countries have these, but we have an army of “ambulance-motorcycles” that can scoot through traffic jams right to the emergency scene.  Usually this one is already parked at the synagogue before I arrive just before 7 a.m., but this morning he must have been late. I saw him for the first time ever. He was a young man with a prayer shawl draped over his army uniform, removing his motorcycle helmet with one hand and a prayer book in the other, running into the synagogue to pray. The sight stopped me in my mind and its image imbedded itself in my mind.  What can I say? This is Israel.

The news media just reported that 18 Israeli terror victims still remain in hospital, 3 in critical condition. These are the results of numerous knife and stone throwing attacks that have taken place since this past Wednesday.

This morning an Arab woman detonated a device in her car at a border crossing injuring one border patrolman and badly injuring her.  The police presence is strong everywhere, with sniffer dogs walking up and down main roads.  At the slightest sign of something irregular, citizens run up to one of these guardians and point toward what needs to be checked out.

I think that it was Thursday when the bomb squad was called to an underpass in front of my house. I had to stand clear od the windows while the bomb was detonated.

But it isn’t just in Jerusalem or other big cities.

With the Syrian war raging on our northern border, which includes the presence of Iran, Russia and Hezbollah, areas of the northern Arab towns have started to erupt with demonstrations.  From Gaza, rockets have again begun to fly, and large groups of rioters have succeeded twice in breaking the Gaza border fence and infiltrating into Israel.  It seems that both inside and on all of our borders there is a renewed surge to press us into the sea.

What has caused this latest escalation and what will the outcome be?  Is it spontaneous as they are claiming?

I think NOT!

In my OPINION, there is one BIG factor that I have not seen spoken of anywhere:  the agreement between the west and Iran.  Even before the agreement was ratified by the US, huge European investors were pounding at Iran’s doors to invest and renew trade.  Forget any of their money, which might remain sanctioned, the new money is pouring into Iran.

They immediately became the key to negotiating any middle-east problem and the wise son to be courted.  They increased their production of weapons and were again exporting them.  In my OPINION: THAT was the sign that the Palestinians were waiting for because with Iran out of isolation and having money, Hamas and Hezbollah again have their strongman backer again.

The cry that went out from mosques and Arab leaders proclaimed: “Israel is Judaizing Jerusalem! Defend the Alaksa Mosque!  The Jews are trying to destroy the mosque!  They are changing the status quo!

These statements have been hammered into the heads of Arabs, actually for years, but suddenly the soil was right for the seeds to sprout and ripen.

1) Their meaning of “Judaizing Jerusalem” says that Jews have no history in this region, and certainly not on Temple Mount.  There never was a temple.  Jews are making it up to destroy the great legacy of Islam that has been the owner from the beginning.

2) The Jews are trying to destroy Alaksa Mosque is ridiculous!  Our police and soldiers are the ones who have defended it against a few radicals over the years who decided to blow it up, but these were very isolated. They were swiftly dealt with by Israeli law.  When renovations of the ramp to the temple mount were being carried out, the cry went out that we were trying to destroy the mosque.  The same cry went out when the Hashmonian Tunnel was open.  It is an empty accusation as they all are.

3) The ‘status quo’ − which is just as it says: that what has been will continue. It in fact has NOT changed DESPITE the fact that the news media is screaming “Jews refuse entry to temple mount of Moslem worshippers!”

But yes, this is all PART of the status-quo!  The riots are generally carried out by young men who store up rocks, Molotov cocktails and other weapons in the mosque to throw down on Jewish worshippers at the western wall.  When that happens (NOT infrequently) an age limit is set on Moslem men allowed to enter the compound.  It’s the law and it prevents riots and injuries.  When calm is restored the age limit is lifted.

I know that I don’t have to tell most of you these things. It perplexes most Israelis that the world seems so blind.  How can people not see and not understand?

But HE walked these very streets in this very city and WE did not see and understand.  It’s sadly EASY to be deceived and to believe something that isn’t the truth and then to disbelieve Truth.

And that is precisely why “Looking unto Jesus…” has meant so much to me.  I can’t trust myself to discern the truth. Only HE Who IS Truth can rightly divide it to me.  I mean, how many times did His own followers not even recognize Him in the flesh? What in the world makes me think that my little pea brain can discern TRUTH in this upside down world?  ONLY BY HIS SPIRIT CAN I KNOW TRUTH!  I am convinced of that…and yet I still let that old pea brain carry me away once in awhile.  How PROUD a little pea can be!

THANK YOU FOR YOUR SPIRIT LED PRAYERS FOR OUR NATION IN ACCORDANCE WITH GOD’S PLANS AND PURPOSES FOR HIS GLORY.

God bless you.

Lovingly,

your sister J

If We Just Ignore Gays, They’ll Go Away, Right? (Part 3)

IMG_1797

To understand today’s same-sex marital problems, we have to first realize that we live in a fallen world and that the god of this world is not the Lord God Almighty and Creator of Heaven and Earth, but rather, the god of this world is a usurper and a thief named Satan. We believers must open our eyes and quit walking around with our heads in the clouds and tossing out trite phrases, like: “Don’t worry! God’s in control” and “I’ve read the end of the Book. We win!”

Because for the most part, God is not in control in today’s world. If anyone doubts me, go to abortion clinics or the prisons in North Korea where 75,000 Christians are held captive for their beliefs or the sex trade in Asia where five-year olds are repeatedly raped for money or to my home on one of my bad days. These examples should wake us up!

Okay, now that we’re on the same page, let’s look at God’s original blueprint and what happened.

Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” So God created…male and female…And God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it… (Genesis 1:26-28)

God created man and woman to be His ambassadors on earth. Each had specific strengths to help the other one and to carry out God’s plans. They were also told to have babies, which – yes – meant they had sex. Interestingly enough, procreation was accomplished without Youtube videos or sex guides. It was innate and a part of our human makeup.

Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh. And the man and his wife were both naked and not ashamed. (Genesis 2:24)

Adam and Eve had a great deal going for them, but was the Garden of Eden a perfect place to live?

Actually, it wasn’t!

“Are We There Yet?” (Part 6)

“Speak to the children of Israel, saying: ‘The fifteenth day of this seventh month shall be the Feast of Tabernacles (Sukkot) for seven days to the LORD. You shall keep it as a feast to the LORD for seven days in the year…It shall be a statute forever in your generations. You shall celebrate it in the seventh month. You shall dwell in booths for seven days. All who are native Israelites shall dwell in booths, that your generations may know that I made the children of Israel dwell in booths when I brought them out of the land of Egypt: I am the LORD your God.’ ”(Leviticus 23:34, 41-43)

Sukkot (or Feast of Tabernacles) is celebrated on the 15th of Tishri until 22nd of Tishri on the Hebrew calendar, which corresponds to mid-September to mid-October on the Gregorian calendar. The Hebrew word sukkot means hut, tent, or tabernacle.

Today, Jews and Messianic believers construct temporary huts or tents in which meals are eaten throughout the Feast. Some still dwell in them for the full Feast in observance to Leviticus 23:42.

The Feast of Tabernacles is also known as the Feast of Ingathering. From an agricultural standpoint, the Feast represented the end of the crop year with the harvest of grapes and other fruits. It is now time to rejoice.

No whiners during this feast. REJOICE! God loves to party, even more than we do. (Mark Biltz)

Interesting enough, many believe that Jesus was born on the Feast of Tabernacles.

If He was born on the Feast of Tabernacles, why do you think there was no room in the Inn? Thousands of pilgrims. If He was born in December, there would have been all kinds of room. (Mark Biltz)

From a prophetic viewpoint, the Feast of Tabernacles foreshadows the sheltering presence of God over Israel during the Millennial Kingdom. It is also a feast that every nation must keep during this thousand year period or there will be drastic consequences for them.

And it shall come to pass that everyone who is left of all the nations which came against Jerusalem shall go up from year to year to worship the King, the LORD of hosts, and to keep the Feast of Tabernacles. And it shall be that whichever of the families of the earth do not come up to Jerusalem to worship the King, the LORD of hosts, on them there will be no rain. (Zechariah 14:16-17)

This is just a brief overlay of the Feast of Tabernacles. So, if you want to learn more, take the time to watch Mark Biltz’s great video here. You will be blessed for watching it.

Thursday’s Prayers for America (10/8/2015)

IMG_0011

Ananias and Sapphira loved the Lord and were excited about their upcoming ministries. They followed Barnabas’ example by selling a piece of property and then Ananias laid the financial proceeds from the sale at the apostles’ feet. The only difference is that Ananias and Sapphira kept part of the proceeds back for themselves, probably as a “just-in-case” rainy day fund.

The last words Ananias heard before stepping into eternity to meet the Judge were spoken by Peter:

“Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and to keep back for yourself part of the proceeds of the land? While it remained unsold, did it not remain your own? And after it was sold, was it not at your disposal? Why is it that you have contrived this deed in your heart? You have not lied to man but to God.” (Acts 5:3-4)

Ananias died and some young men buried him. Three hours later Sapphira, who missed her husband’s funeral, stopped by the house church. Peter spoke to her and she suffered the same fate as her husband.

And great fear came upon the whole church and upon all who heard of these things. (Acts 5:11)

Today, I prayed:

Lord, I ask You to help American believers walk in the fear of the Lord and the comfort of the Holy Spirit so that our love is genuine and that we abhor evil, holding fast to what is good. (Based on Acts 9:31 and Romans 12:9)

What do you think and has the Lord spoken to you?

Join with me on Thursdays to fast and pray for America.

“Are We There Yet?” (Part 5)

“Now on the tenth day of this seventh month is the Day of Atonement. It shall be for you a time of holy convocation, and you shall afflict yourselves and present a food offering to the LORD. (Leviticus 23:27)

Yom Kippur (or Day of Atonement) is celebrated on the 10th of Tishri on the Hebrew calendar, which falls in the period between mid-September and mid-October on the Gregorian calendar. It is the most solemn and holiest day of the year and is not a feast as such, but rather a time of fasting and repentance.

What does atonement mean? The Hebrew word is kaphar. It literally means to cover. Think of a credit card, which doesn’t pay your bill, but covers you until you can pay the bill. So, the Day of Atonement covered the sins of Israel, but did not take them away. (Mark Biltz)

In traditional Judaism:

Yom Kippur marks the climax of the ten day period of repentance called the Days of Awe. According to Jewish tradition, on Feast of Trumpets (Yom Teruah) the destiny of the righteous are written in the Book of Life and the destiny of the wicked are written in the Book of Death. However, most people will not be inscribed in either book, but have ten days – until Yom Kippur – to repent before sealing their fate. Therefore, on Yom Kippur, every soul’s name will be sealed in one of the two books. (Hebrew for Christians)

When the Temple was still in use in Jerusalem, Yom Kippur was the only day of the year when the High Priest could enter the Holy of Holies and invoke the sacred name of Yahweh to offer blood sacrifices for the people of Israel. There were no “do-overs.” If mistakes were made, the sins were not atoned for that year and then carried over until the following year.

From a prophetic viewpoint, after the Tribulation has begun on a future Feast of Trumpets, the people of Israel will have their blinders removed on a future Yom Kippur and Jesus will return on that day. It will be that generation of Jews who will all be saved.

This is just a brief overlay of Yom Kippur. So, if you want to learn more, take the time to watch Mark Biltz’s great video here. You will be blessed for watching it.

Next, we will look at the Feast of Tabernacles.
