Prayers for California (1/8/2019)

Last December, I felt what we saw in Donald Trump was pretty much what we had to put up with. A 70-year-old man with swooped back hair, wearing a Brioni suit, dripping with pride, petty anger, intelligence and courage.

But I also felt what we saw did not count much compared to what God saw in Trump’s heart. I believed God saw a man who would take a stand for Israel, weather every international storm sure to hit him and still move the U.S. Embassy to Jerusalem, recognizing the Holy City as the capital of Israel. (WND, column by Larry Nevenhoven, 12/22/2017)

If my insight was correct when I wrote the above column for WND, then there might be some problems for those who openly defy or rebel against President Trump –

He allowed no one to oppress them; He rebuked kings on their account, saying, “Touch not My anointed ones, do My prophets no harm!” (Psalm 105:15 ESV)

I don’t believe President Trump is a prophet, but I do absolutely believe he is God’s chosen man to bless Israel at this stage in history. So, along with the anointing, I believe God will protect and avenge President Trump.

How will God do this? I don’t claim to know, but I do understand that the Hebrew word translated into our English word rebuked can mean more than a verbal reprimand. It can  also mean to be judged and chastened.

Why pray for California?

Gavin Newsom was sworn in as California’s 40th governor yesterday. In his acceptance speech, he stated that California would offer an alternative to the corruption and incompetence in the White House. Not only that, Newsom placed California in a nation-state category versus the Trump Administration and America.

Therefore, I live in California, a state that openly thumbs its nose at God’s anointed. This may not end well for us.

My prayer for today:

O Lord, California has sinned and done wrong and acted wickedly and rebelled against You and Your ways. To You belongs righteousness, but to us open shame because we have sinned against You. According to Your righteousness, let Your anger and Your wrath turn away from California. O Lord, listen to Your servant’s pleas for mercy and for Your own sake, make Your face shine upon California, which is a desperate state in need of Your Spirit now. (Based on Daniel 9:3-19)

Politicians, False Prophets and Jesus (Part 1)

Much later, another panic attack awakened me. Someone moved in my cell. What did he want?

“De Luz, stand up. Let’s go.”

Rolling over, I saw the same two guards again. The big one had his hand on his gun and the smaller one held leg irons and handcuffs in his hands.

I yawned and stood up.

“What now?”

“Shut up.”

I held my hands out as he put the handcuffs on. He stooped down and tightened the leg irons around my ankles.

“Okay, let’s go.”

“Where?” I said.

“Down the hallway toward the visitors’ room. And shut up. No talking.”

One of the gang-bangers woke up as we walked past his cell.

“Hey man, where you taking him at 1 a.m. in the morning?”

The big guard looked at him, his eyes seething.

“Shut up, if you don’t want to end up in lockdown.”

The gang-banger mumbled something and then pulled the blanket back over his head.

Just before we reached the visitors’ room, the big guard grabbed my shoulder.

“Stop here.”

He opened a door with a key and held it open for me. I duck-walked past him into an interrogation room with a white iron table bolted to the floor. There were two metal chairs, one on each side of the table. Three walls were painted pale green and the fourth wall had a large one-way mirror. I supposed people watched me through the mirror.

“Sit down.”

As I did, Mayor Streyer walked into the room, carrying two cups of coffee. He wore jeans, a blue chambray work shirt, and a pair of Italian loafers. His famous million-dollar smile perched itself under his nose. He sat down opposite me.

“Remove his handcuffs, Jeremiah’s not going anywhere. Then, leave us alone. I’ll call you when we’re done. Thanks,” he said in rapid fire staccato.

The small guard took the handcuffs off. The two left.

The mayor handed me a cup.

“Starbucks,” he whispered. “Your favorite, right?”

I smiled and sipped some coffee. It tasted great.

“Wondering why you’re here?”

I nodded, but did not say a word.

“My wife, Dina, is worried sick by your prophecies. She can’t sleep. Can’t eat. Wants our two children to stay in Phoenix with her parents until this blows over,” he said, sipping coffee.

“Tonight, she begged me to talk with you,” he went on. “She hopes I can persuade you to ask God not to destroy San Francisco.”

I looked at him as if he came from another planet.

“Let me get this straight, okay?” I said in a measured tone. “She believes I’m a prophet?”

The question embarrassed him. His eyes dropped to his coffee cup.

“Yeah,” he whispered under his breath.

“What about you?”

He shrugged and showed off his million-dollar smile.

“I’m a politician with a capital P. If a pollster can prove believing you’re a prophet will add fifty thousand votes to my tally, then I’ll believe you’re a prophet. But I don’t see that happening. You’ve alienated the gay community, which is twenty-five percent of the voters in San Francisco. That’s a tough nut to crack.”

“What about people? Don’t you care what happens to them?”

His blue eyes opened wide.

“Well, it’s obvious I care about Dina and my two children. I’m here, aren’t I?” he said, leaning back in his chair. “But the people, whether they’re gays, feminists, peaceniks, liberals, straights, conservatives, fall into specific voting blocks. I just need the blocks to add up to fifty-one percent at the end of every battle on my side of the ledger. Sounds easy, right? Let me tell you, it’s not. You have to kiss butts and gargle Lewis Lye to make it work.”

I stared at him and shook my head.

“Shocked at my candor?” he said with a grin. “Don’t be. I’m just laying my cards on the table. If you think church leaders are any different, you’re wrong. They’re just as pragmatic as politicians and maybe even worse!”

A strange look flashed across his eyes. I got the sense there was a lot under the surface he was not saying about church leaders.

“The Freedom Riders had a favorite Gandhi quote, describing politicians and leaders like you,” I said. “There goes my people, I must run and catch up with them, for I am their leader.”

“Great quote. It sums up the art of politics in one sentence.”

We both took a break and drank coffee.

He leaned forward with his eyes staring full bore into mine.

“So what’s your answer?”

“San Francisco must repent.”

He slapped the table and stood up.

“That’s probably not happening, but who knows? Maybe I’m wrong. If I am, I’ll make a quick change and run to the front of the group. After all,” he said with eyebrows raised, “I’m their leader.”

He pivoted around and left the room.

Two minutes later, the two guards escorted me back to the cell.

The mayor’s words aggravated me when I was alone again. I paced back and forth from one wall to another. My spirit was stirred up. I was upset. Tears and sweat rolled down my cheeks. Politicians care about one thing: power. I thought. How can politicians be our answers?…What hope do we have?

“Deceived Dead and Delivered” is FREE on Amazon Today

DDD1

My book, Deceived Dead and Delivered, is FREE on Amazon today through Sunday.

Amazon book description:

Deceived Dead and Delivered consists of two short novels, a prophetic allegory, and a few short stories, written especially for believers who are looking for answers to today’s tough questions.

In the first short novel, Pull the Plug, life was perfect for Chuck Brewster until that Easter Sunday in San Francisco when the angel arrived and opened Chuck’s eyes. From then on, Chuck’s new revelations stirred up nothing but trouble…or so his wife and family thought.

The second short novel, Deceived Dead and Delivered, takes place near the campus of the University of California, Berkeley, where Daniel and Amanda McCord attend the progressive Jesus Is Love Community Church. Then one morning a new spiritual gift causes Daniel to realize, “demons suck,” and that his church has big problems.

The Great American Church Derby is a prophetic allegory which takes place in a Starbucks with two men drinking coffee. It offers hope to hungry believers who long for a church who truly walks in unity.

The book contains the above, and also a few short stories.

Fiction or revelations? You can decide for yourself after reading Deceived Dead and Delivered.

Available on Amazon for Kindles and Kindle apps.

Prayers for our Schools (3/27/2018)

It’s sad that politicians and political agenda organizations used high school kids as pawns in the recent “March for Our Lives.”

There’s nothing wrong with voicing your dissent, but this was planned months ahead of time by political groups. They just waited for the perfect school calamity to occur. And Parkland fit their agendas.

My prayer today:

Lord, raise up young Davids in our nation’s local schools and arm them to fight against the Goliaths of America in the name of the Lord God of Hosts. (Based on 1 Samuel 17:45)

Prayers for our Schools (3/13/2018)

SchoolBus-NashvilleTransportation

Nothing is more heart wrenching than watching the distraught parents and citizens on TV after a school disaster. I am sure they are all burdened with what they should have done and should have said before the tragedy took place.

It’s too late to do much for them, except pray for the Lord to comfort them in their agony.

But it’s not too late for us now. We can join with the Lord God of Hosts and use the most powerful weapon He has given us — prayer — to protect the school children in our local communities.

My prayer today:

Lord, You said that believers could have whatever things they ask for when they pray if they believed they would receive them. Well, Lord, we believe that You will protect the children in our local schools this week. Thanks for honoring Your Word. Amen. (Based on Mark 11:24

Prayers for California (2/20/2018)

The angel touched me with his hand after a few minutes.

“Look up again,” he said.

I stood up, obeying his command.

This time the spiritual darkness over the university cleared up enough so I could see through it. There, directly above Sather Tower, was a tarnished brass throne and sitting on the throne was a creature, which resembled a monstrous, grotesque gargoyle. It had an elongated, dragon-like face with horns next to its pointed ears, man-like arms with talons for hands, a scaly reptile-like main torso, and wolf-like hindquarters. A long tail wrapped itself around the being’s front paws.

I realized the spiritual murkiness over the campus originated from this creature. It controlled what looked like a tinted screen layer over the whole campus, which filtered out rays of light from the heavens above the screen.  The atmosphere below the screen was murkier and darker than the one above it. Not only was the creature filtering out light rays: it was also spewing out, in rapid AK-47 salvos, what looked like commands from its mouth to the ground below.

“What you’re seeing is the governing demonic principality over the University of California, Berkeley. It’s a religious one, and one of the gatekeepers mentioned by Jesus in Matthew 16:18. Now, look down,” he said, pointing to students walking along the sidewalks below us.

I watched various students crisscrossing the Campanile Esplanade on their way to classes. They looked normal, wearing typical college apparel. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary. My spiritual eyes then kicked in, and what appeared normal in the natural realm was not so normal in the spiritual one.

Have you ever seen pictures of a flying dinosaur known as a pterodactyl? It has a long, slender head with a mouth of sharp teeth, scaly-like body, web-like wings, and talons for feet. This sort of resembles the creatures I saw, sitting on the shoulders of almost every student walking below me. Each creature was the size of a large crow and had wolf hair on its body and a slender rat’s tail. They constantly whispered into the ears of students while holding a wing over the students’ other ears. The creatures also defecated and vomited on the students so that each person dripped with slop and sewage. It was ghastly and I yearned to warn the students.

“Follow those two over there,” said the angel, pointing toward two guys.

I focused on the two students. They continued talking to each other as they walked into a free speech area where a street evangelist preached the gospel of the kingdom of God. Both stopped and listened. I watched the pterodactyl-like creatures use their beaks to snatch the seeds of the gospel out of the twosome’s hearts with swift surgeon-like precision. The two students walked away after a few minutes, none the better for their experiences.

I wanted to shout and warn everyone. Someone needed to do it. Why not me?

(Excerpt from Deceived Dead and Delivered by Larry Nevenhoven, © 2013, Amazon eBook)

The above is a fictional rendering of the spiritual realm over the University of California at Berkeley. Is it totally accurate? It is based on scriptures, but of course, I’ve used literary license to bring it to life.

The real reason I wrote Deceived Dead and Delivered was to open people’s eyes to spiritual warfare. Most believers have no clue about fighting the kingdom of darkness and because of this, we are losing battles we should win.

My prayer today:

Lord, remove the blinders from the eyes of California believers so that we can see how to fight spiritual battles against the kingdom of darkness. (Based on 2 Corinthians 4:4)

Prayers for California (2/13/2018)

It looks to me like God has placed believers between a rock and a hard place on illegal immigration. On the one hand, we are called to love the stranger and feel compassion toward the needy.

What heart is not touched by a poor Mexican who has risked his life to cross the desert to America in order to provide a better life for his family. Most of us would do the same thing if we were in the same situation.

But with the decent illegal immigrants, America is also getting a mixture of terrorists, MS-13 gang members, and other criminals. Is this a good trade-off?

Then, on the other hand, California is in open rebellion against the Federal Government with its “sanctuary state” status. God hates rebellion!

How can this ever be handled in a godly manner?

My prayer today:

Lord, we do not know how to pray for California on the illegal immigration issue, but we trust that You know the answer. So, we put it in Your hands and trust in Your mercy.

Prayers for California (2/6/2018)

In 2 Samuel 11 & 12, we read:

King David committed adultery with Bathsheba. She became pregnant. Bathsheba’s husband was murdered by David. A baby boy was born to David and Bathsheba. The prophet Nathan arrived at David’s home, pointed out David’s sin, and stated that the baby would die.

David therefore pleaded with God for the child, and David fasted and went in and lay all night on the ground. (1 Samuel 12:16)

King David continued fasting and praying for seven days, but the baby still died.

Did King David waste his time by fasting and praying for his baby?

No, David’s fasting and praying prepared his heart for the tough days ahead of him when his son Absalom rebelled and took over Israel. The House of David ended up surviving Absalom’s rebellion.

What about fasting and praying for California? Will we be able to turn around all of the problems facing our state?

So King David said, “While the child was still alive, I fasted and wept; for I said, ‘Who can tell whether the Lord will be gracious to me, that the child may live?'” (2 Samuel 12: 22)

Like King David, I can’t say for sure California will be turned around and end up surviving, but I can say with certainty that we will be changed and prepared for whatever happens in the future.

My prayer today:

Lord, raise up believers who are willing to fast and pray for California, trusting You to use our efforts for Your purposes and not for our comforts and desires.

What do you think and has the Lord spoken to you today?

Join with me on Tuesdays to fast and pray for California.
