What’re Your Plans for 300 Years from Now? (Part 6)

larry-243.jpg

In the Book of Revelation Chapters 2 and 3, Jesus gives seven promises to believers who overcome, with the greatest promise being:

To him who overcomes, I will grant to sit with Me on My throne, as I also overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne. (Revelation 3:21)

Nancy and Chuck Missler wrote about being overcomers in their powerful book – Kingdom, Power & Glory: The Overcomer’s Handbook —

Okay, so why is learning about being a faithful overcomer so important? Why make such a big deal about it?

It’s important because the Bible teaches us that overcomers are the only ones who will inherit the Millennial Kingdom and possibly rule and reign with Christ. Revelation 21:7: “He that overcometh shall inherit all things and I will be his God and he shall be My Son.” Overcomers are the ones who will have various levels of responsibility in the coming kingdom.

What we are saying is that all Christians will enter the Millennial Kingdom, be “with” Christ” and have eternal life (John 14:3; John 3:16). But only the faithful overcomers – the ones who have fulfilled the conditions set down by God in His Word – will inherit and possibly rule in that kingdom.

Some of these conditions are found in Romans 8:17 and 2 Timothy 2:12, which say, if we don’t suffer with Him, we will jeopardize our being able to reign with Him. Matthew 24:45-47 says the if we are not faithful, we could endanger our being made “rulers” over His household. And finally, James 2:5 warns that if we don’t love (agapao) Him, we could forfeit our being heirs of His kingdom. In addition to these scriptures, Ephesians 5:1-5 gives us a list of other things that if we do, we will not inherit.

So, scripturally, there’s a huge difference between simply entering the Millennial Kingdom and being a “subject” there (which all believers will do) and actually inheriting that kingdom and being a “sovereign” there (which only the faithful overcomers will do). All born-again believers will enter, but only the triumphant overcoming Christians will rule and reign. The deciding factor is how we live our lives here and now.

CHARLES STANLEY (Baptist pastor, radio preacher, and author of forty-five books) in his book Eternal Security wrote: “Does our behavior matter once we are assured of our salvation? You bet it does. Are there any eternal consequences when a believer sins? Absolutely. Will eternity be the same for those who follow Christ faithfully and those who live for themselves? Not a chance. Our God is a God of justice as well as a God of grace. His offer of grace is continually extended to even the most vile sinner. But His justice moves Him to keep a careful record of those who remain faithful and those who do not. His grace moved Him to sacrifice His only Son to provide a way for our salvation. But His justice causes him to take special note o those believers who are willing to sacrifice for His Son.

What we do 300 years from now depends on our decisions now.

What’re Your Plans for 300 Years from Now? (Part 5)

larry-243.jpg

Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” (Genesis 1:26)

From the beginning, God’s plan was that Adam, and all of mankind after him, would rule and reign on earth. But Adam threw a wrench into God’s plans by sinning and handing over his position of earthly rulership to Satan.

Because of Adam’s sin, all of creation was placed in bondage, subjected to God’s curse. Creation’s only hope was that the sons of God would come forth and take their positions as rulers once again.

Then, in the fullness of time, God sent His Son to redeem mankind at the cross. So, after the Son of God’s death, resurrection, and ascension, there are now sons of God on the earth once again.

But something is missing. What is it?

For He has not put the world to come, of which we speak, in subjection to angels. (Hebrews 2:5)

At creation, God placed mankind under an angelic form of government. His angels were supposed to serve and minister to mankind, but because of Adam’s sin, Satan and his demonic angels became our adversaries. Now, Satan and his demonic horde sit in the governmental positions created by God as principalities, powers, rulers of darkness of this age, and spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places ruling over mankind.

Even though the church has authority to make known the wisdom of God to the demonic governing powers in the heavenly places, we haven’t really walked in that authority as yet. Hopefully, we will soon do that.

But even so, Satan’s angelic government will not be overthrown until after the great tribulation and Jesus returns to earth.

Here’s an important fact to remember: God never rescinded His words about mankind having dominion on earth. Thus, it’s still His plan for us, not under an angelic government, but under the Son of Man – Jesus Christ our Lord and King.

What must we do to prepare ourselves to rule and reign with Christ?

Praying for Our Children (Part 4)

dscf1526

Our Hunger for God Empowers Our Children

Nearly twenty-five years ago, a divorce turned my life upside down. This upheaval caused me to be apart from my two children most of the time. It was tough being an estranged father and, at the same time, trying to be a committed believer, godly father, and an example for them.

My only hope was to cry out to the Lord. This resulted in me feeling He wanted me to study the Bible in which I discovered some great blessings for us.

I will surely bless you, and I will surely multiply your offspring as the stars of heaven and as the sand that is on the seashore. And your offspring shall possess the gate of his enemies and in your offspring all the nations of the earth will be blessed because you have obeyed My voice.(Genesis 22:17)

The angel of the Lord spoke the above blessings to Abraham when the patriarch laid his promise −his son Isaac −on the altar and raised his knife to slay him as an offering to God. Abraham’s willingness to obey the voice of God and to trust Him for his provision, even though there was nothing in sight, brought forth this prophetic promise for all of his children and offspring.

Jewish believers receive all of the blessings of Abraham through the patriarch’s covenant with God.  Gentile believers receive the same blessings through our faith in Christ Jesus because we are heirs according to the promises given to Abraham.

What this means is that if we believers endure trials and the testing of our faith, trusting God to bring us through them, like Abraham did, God will bless our children:

(1) with possessing the gates of their enemies and

(2) people will be blessed by our children.

Possessing the gates of the enemies?

In Abraham’s time, cities had walls around them, protecting the city dwellers from their enemies. The gates of the cities were the entrances into the city through the walls and whoever controlled the gates ended up controlling the city. So, possessing the gates of the enemies represents power and control over enemies.

Thus, this blessing of Abraham states that our children will have control over their enemies and will bless other nations (or people).

Who is the man who fears the LORD? He will instruct him in the way He should choose. His soul will abide in prosperity, and his descendants will inherit the land. (Psalm 25:12-13 NASB)

“His descendants inheriting the land” specifically refers to Israel’s descendants inheriting all of the land God gave them in the Middle East or the Promised Land. For us Gentiles, it means that our offspring will inherit the Promised Lands for their lives, whether it is spiritual or temporal.

I have been young, and nowam old; yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his descendants begging bread. He isever merciful, and lends; and his descendants areblessed. (Psalm 37:25-26 NKJV)

The children of righteous parents will never have to beg for food because the Lord will be their provider. And also, because the righteous parents are gracious with their gifts to others, the children will be blessed.

Praise the LORD! How joyful are those who fear the LORD and delight in obeying his commands. Their children will be successful everywhere; an entire generation of godly people will be blessed.(Psalm 112:1-2 NLT)

Parents who fear the Lord and obey His commandments will have successful children.

He will bless those who fear the LORD, bothsmall and great. May the Lord give you increase more and more, you and your children. (Psalm 115:14 NKJV)

Parents who fear the Lord will be blessed and their children will be even more blessed.

The righteous who walks in his integrity— blessed are his children after him! (Proverbs 20:7)

Walking in God’s ways brings blessings to our children.

“And it shall come to pass afterward that I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh; your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions.(Joel 2:28)

Peter referred to this verse in Acts 2:17. Thus, if we walk in the fear of the Lord and in His ways, we can believe our children will prophesy and see visions.

For our children to receive these blessings, the responsibility rests on us parents. We need to be righteous before the Lord, fear Him, and obey His commandments to the best of our abilities. But even then, we must use our faith to believe these blessings will be poured out on our children.

Prayer: “Father, because I am a believer in Jesus Christ, an heir to the blessings of Abraham, have Your Spirit dwelling in me, obey Your voice and Your commandments, and greatly fear You, I believe that my children −(names)−shall posses the gates of their enemies, shall be a blessing to other people, shall inherit the Promised Lands for their lives, shall not be beggars, shall be successful in whatever they attempt to do, shall have greater blessings than I have enjoyed, shall prophesy, and see visions. Now, I thank You, Father, that Your word is truth and that I can stand on it, no matter what my eyes may see; and I thank You that it is Your responsibility to make Your words come to pass in My children’s lives. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

Prayers for America (6/21/2018)

Jesus was walking with his disciples in Caesarea Philippi, which was twenty-five miles north of Capernaum, Jesus’ hometown during this period. He tossed out a question to the twelve, “Who do people say that the Son of Man is?”

His disciples answered Him by saying, “Elijah, John the Baptist, Jeremiah, or one of the other prophets.”

Jesus zeroed in on their opinions. “But who do you say I am?”

Without hesitation, Peter said, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.”

Jesus called Peter blessed and stated that his revelation came from the Father. Then Jesus said —

And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. (Matthew 16:18)

Some have taken Jesus’ words to mean the church is either to be built on Peter or upon his revelation. Actually, I believe it is both.

Thirty years later, the apostle Paul wrote:

[The household of God is] built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus Himself being the cornerstone (Ephesians 2:20)

My prayer today:

Lord, raise up churches in America built on the foundation of apostles and prophets with Jesus as the Cornerstone so these churches can withstand the end-times’ onslaught by Satan and his kingdom of darkness. (Based on Matthew 16:18 and Ephesians 2:20)

What do you think and has the Lord spoken to you today?

Join with me on Thursdays to fast and pray for America.

What’re Your Plans for 300 Years From Now? (Part 2)

larry-243.jpg

If we take a step in obedience, God will reward us with a mile of blessings. (Mike Bickel)

Jesus spoke a parable about a nobleman who was traveling to a far country. Before leaving, the nobleman called ten of his servants into his office. There he gave each a bag of silver worth about a hundred days of wages for a common laborer.

He told the ten men, “Do business with this money until I return.”

After a period of time, the nobleman returned. The man called for his ten servants to give an accounting of their business transactions.

The first servant had earned ten more bags of money for a 1000% return.

The nobleman said to the man, “Well done, good servant. Because you have been faithful in a very little, you shall have authority over ten cities.” (Luke 19:17)

Yes, Luke 19:11-27 is a parable, but Jesus used it to explain a truth, one that I overlooked for years.

In Matthew 25:14-30, Jesus told a similar parable about three servants who were given various amounts of money by a master while he went on a trip. One was given five 75-lb. bags of silver, another two 75-lb. bags of silver, and a third received one 75-lb. bag of silver.

Upon returning, the master settled accounts with the three men. The first man doubled the master’s investment by earning five more 75-lb. bags of silver for the master.

The master said to the servant, “Well done, good and faithful servant; you were faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord. (Matthew 25:21)

Once again, this is a parable, which Jesus used to explain a truth to us.

In the Book of Revelation, we read two interesting verses in the King James or the New King James translations that tie into the above parables:

And from Jesus Christ, the faithful witness, the firstborn from the dead, and the ruler over the kings of the earth. To Him who loved us and washed us from our sins in His own blood, and has made us kings and priests to His God and Father, to Him be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen. (Revelation 1:5-6 NKJ)

How can we be kings and rulers, right?

Do We Still Need Prophecy and the Spiritual Gifts?

dolly-335

A commenter on Dr. Michael Brown’s recent column, Charismatic Movement Needs Some Self-Policing: “The fruit of the Charismatic Movement has not been good.”

Like many critics, this person could only see the thorns of the Charismatic Movement and not the beautiful rose blossoms that have blessed numerous lives, including mine.

On May 20, 1985, I decided to commit suicide. This decision was based on my failure to put together a farm publishing company. All of my financial sources were maxed out, with the only untouched asset being a $125,000 life insurance policy on my life.

Suicide was not a problem because I was an agnostic. My not believing in God relieved me of worrying about Hell and God’s eternal punishment for my unbelief. It seemed like a good business decision on my part.

For some reason, I stopped at an insurance agent’s office that afternoon. Bill wasn’t my insurance agent nor was he a close intimate friend. Our relationship was built on my coaching his son for a teen baseball team the year before.

Bill invited me into his office. I sat down on a chair in front of his desk while he sat on the opposite side.  We talked about baseball, but in the middle of our conversation, he paused and stared at me. “You’re thinking about committing suicide, aren’t you?” he said.

His words hit me like a sledgehammer. How did he know? It was my secret $125,000 payday. I was speechless. As I sat there, a vision played across my mind about my car ramming into a viaduct and killing me.

I wept. “How did you know?” I asked.

“Oh,” said Bill, “the Lord told me while we were talking to each other.”

His words shattered my unbelief. God was alive and He cared about me.

We continued talking for a while longer. He gave me a book to read: Power in Praise by Merlin Carothers. Bill stated how the small book had changed his life a few years earlier.

When I arrived home, I began reading the book. After finishing the first eighteen pages, I walked into the bathroom, closed the door, looked into the mirror and said, “Jesus, I’ve tried everything else and nothing has worked. I guess I’ll give You a try.”

Instantly, I was changed. I bowed down on the tile floor and worshipped my new Lord and King.

How a reader views my salvation testimony probably depends on which camp of Christianity the person presently sits in.

Eight to ten percent of American Christians might pooh-pooh my salvation testimony because they’re cessationists who believe that prophecy and the spiritual gifts ceased at the end of the apostolic age.

Another fifteen to twenty percent of Christians might jump up and down, saying, “Amen, brother.” These are the Pentecostals, Charismatics and others who wholeheartedly endorse prophecy and the spiritual gifts.

That leaves a balance of seventy to seventy-five percent of American Christians who are not in either of the first two camps. They have heard about prophecy but have not seen the spiritual gifts functioning in their own churches. For the most part, they do not hold any opinions one way or another on prophecy or the spiritual gifts.

What does the Bible say about prophecy and the spiritual gifts?

Pursue love, and earnestly desire spiritual gifts, especially that you may prophesy. (1 Corinthians 14:1)

The Apostle Paul wrote the above verse in his first letter to the Corinthian Church around 55 AD. It explained the spiritual gifts and their proper usage.

The historian Eusebius pointed out the importance of prophecy in an event that occurred only ten or eleven years after Paul’s letter. A Messianic believer in Jerusalem prophesied that everyone should flee the Holy City to save their lives. The prophecy also reminded the believers of Jesus’ prophecy on the first Palm Sunday.

By early 69 AD, every Messianic believer had fled Jerusalem. Most went to a city in Jordan, named Pella, which was about sixty miles from Jerusalem.

In 70 AD, the Roman army led by General Titus sacked Jerusalem and destroyed the Temple, slaughtering nearly a million Jews. This calamity fulfilled the prophecy spoken by Jesus on that first Palm Sunday.

The number of Messianic believers who fled Jerusalem were about sixty thousand in total. Those believers loved Jerusalem and their Jewish neighbors. They would have told everyone about the prophecy, but sadly, the Jewish army had won some battles against Rome when the prophecy was first spoken. Therefore, most Jews ignored the words of those Messianic believers and remained in Jerusalem. The majority of them died.

What if someone today prophesied that we should evacuate San Francisco or Chicago or New York City or Washington D. C. or wherever because the city was about to be destroyed?

Maybe you’re thinking something like this could never happen, right?

The Book of Revelation tells us about the horrific destruction which will occur in our world sometime in the near future. Half of the earth’s population will die during the seal and trumpet judgments. Most of the cities will be destroyed. If believers don’t take the mark of the beast, we won’t be able to buy or sell anything, including food and medicine.

So, how will believers survive without prophecy and the spiritual gifts?

Maybe our American-held belief of a pre-tribulation Rapture will be accurate. Maybe believers will be out of here before the bad stuff happens.

But just in case, it might be a good idea to develop an ear for prophecy and learn about the spiritual gifts now.

Inside Israel

SHUK

The Shuk in Jerusalem

Once again, it’s time to hear from our sister in Jerusalem about what she is witnessing there as a believer in Yeshua. Put your prayer shawls on and pray for Israel and Sister J. Now here she is —

To HIM Who is Wonderful, Counselor, Almighty God, The Everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace, The Creator. TO HIM be all glory and may HE be blessed.  May you all be encouraged and blessed and know that you are loved.

GREETINGS!

How incredibly thankful I am that I know Him Who never changes and can’t be moved, because everything around us changes so rapidly and all that can shake surely is being shaken.  Although I do know that some of you get all sorts of reports and know quite well what is happening here, I also know that MANY others of you have told me that you hear nothing and would like to know, so for this second group, I will share some of the things going on as I see it at the end of this letter perhaps…

BUT!

This letter is more to share the path that I am walking and the fruit along the way.  It’s just how wonderful how He can open surprise doors and streams in the desert…and I get to share with you, not one, but TWO such opportunities to rejoice. NOT to rejoice in me for getting the opportunities, but in the fact that HE does such marvelous things.

So, my hand hurts.  No, actually it’s been “killing me big time” for about 2 months.  And it’s my right hand, the one that I use all the time for everything.  Suddenly it really hurt to write, to cut veggies, to do dishes, and forget opening bottles.

My tea cup fell from my hand. The pain went right up through my elbow and shoulder and I kept thinking that it would either go away or well, maybe you know, the body is getting older and things sometimes hurt.  Kudos to you who ALWAYS get healed. I have had miraculous healings. Some very dramatic, and my GOD DOES HEAL, but He also is Truth and the truth is that it hurt and wasn’t healed yet.

My doctor sent me to our health fund’s occupational therapist.  (In Hebrew that is ‘rapooie h’eesook’ רפוי בעסוק.)  I was unfamiliar with this service and was pleasantly surprised to spend an hour with one fun lady from Canada who soaked my hand in hot wax.  She made me a brace that fits and has helped wonderfully.

Of course, we talked about where we came from and why and although I lifted it before The Lord, there was no opening that I found to share there as yet.

BUT OUTSIDE WAS THE SECRETARY!  She was a lovely sabra (native born Israeli) with many of the characteristics of a sabra that I have shared before.  She was DIRECT. There just is NO TIME for beating around the bush with her. But it was a funny conversation that went something like this when I tried to make my next appointment

“OH! You speak Hebrew?  I heard you speaking English.  Why were you speaking English?” she demanded.

I told her, “Well Ruthie is from Canada and English is our mother tongue so it was easy for both of us.”

That was only a door. She continued, “She’s been here 30 years and you speak better than she does!”

NOT! I thought, but thank you.

Then the clincher – “Where do you come from?” she asked.

When she heard, me say, “Alaska,” she lost it.

“ALASKA? WHERE IS THAT? ISN’T IT COLD THERE?”

“It’s pretty there,” I replied.

“WHY DID YOU COME HERE? WE HAVE SO MUCH STRESS!” she exclaimed.

The more of my story that I shared the more she shot questions at me, especially when she heard that my Husband is not Jewish.

“We HAVE to be here!  We are Jewish and we have no choice but WHY IN THE WORLD would anyone who doesn’t have to be here be here?”

Oh my she was intrigued and quite demonstrative about it all.

“Well, you know that it is written in Yeshi’aho (Isaiah) that we Jews will be brought home from the ends of the earth and someone had to come from there. So it is us,”I told her.

To my amazement her answer was: “Well at least did you bring Messiah with you?”

Let that question settle a moment.  I didn’t HAVE a moment as she continued to shoot questions.

I answered “Yes…as a matter of fact…yes I did.”

But she didn’t take notice of my answer and I’m glad. Perhaps because I don’t think that she was ready to hear the full answer but I have her to pray for now. That her heart would be prepared and that HE would remove the scales.

For me though, it was enough to excite me by way of memory that I MUST be ready in season and out of season to give an answer to those who ask.  And perhaps that prepared me for today’s encounter with Kinneret, the secretary along side of me who works for the other doctor. She is the one who replaced Mali. I have asked you to pray for her before, so perhaps He is answering YOUR prayers?

Kinneret, the mother of 5, has a heart-wrenching story.  I shared some of it 5 months ago when she began working with me, but have learned more since. Her 16 year-old twins have mental problems.  Perhaps you remember that her mother has been in a mental hospital since Kinneret was about 5. She is schizophrenic and Kinneret has the dark fear that she has passed the genes down to her children.

Now her son (twin) who has not left the house in a year says that he is homosexual and so ashamed that he wants to die.  As she tearfully shared these griefs with me, how she tries so hard and nothing she puts her hand to succeeds, she has such a broken heart and so much fear. AND she is religious, an orthodox woman.

SUDDENLY The Holy Spirit said, “NOW!  SHARE MY NAME WITH HER NOW!

“YES LORD!’

And so I did. With not enough Hebrew (she speaks no English), there at work, with work to do, but through the door that He was opening, I shared what I could.  I shared how He came to me and how He changed me, NOT by works that I did but by coming IN and living inside of me and bringing me His peace.  She wept and listened and asked some questions. We spoke for about an hour.

Will you pray for her and her family?  Will you pray for HIM ALONE TO BE SEEN AND GLORIFIED?

Yesterday we heard a wonderful message in kehila reminding us about WHO IT IS to Whom we pray and WHO it Is Who leads us through the wilderness, where we grumble for meat when He has given us manna, where we accuse Him of bringing us to death when He is bringing us to LIFE.  And just when you least expect it, HE appears.

And opens a door or two.

Very briefly, an opinion from your sister-of-NO-expertise.

Times are changing here.  Even the silence is different. SOMETHING is happening and Iran is involved.  When the intense rocket fire of last week ended suddenly with a ceasefire that Hamas declared, I thought, “Huh…I don’t think so….”

Friday we were back to “from the river to the sea we are taking back the land,” along with the fires being set by the kites loaded with incendiaries  and then again last night we had more rockets from Gaza into S. Israel.

By the way, the rockets and mortars that we have retrieved were made in Iran.  On our North there has been much tension, and yes, the weather has been mighty strange.

BUT!!  OUR GOD IS! And OUR GOD IS WHOM WE FOLLOW WHEREVER HE LEADS IS WHERE I WANT TO BE.

THANK YOU FOR ALL OF YOUR PRAYERS FOR HIS PURPOSES AND HEART FOR JERUSALEM AND ISRAEL AND FOR OUR FAMILY.

GOD bless you dear brothers and sisters.

Lovingly,

J

Prayers for America (4/26/2018)

God loves Jerusalem. He loves it so much that when He creates a new heaven and a new earth at the end of this age, He will also create a New Jerusalem.

Not only that, but God shall dwell on a throne in New Jerusalem.

My prayer today:

Lord, help American believers to actually believe Your Word enough to wholeheartedly pray for the peace of Jerusalem until it becomes an actuality.  (Based on Psalm 122:6)

Just a reminder: on May 14, 2018, the new American embassy will open in Jerusalem. Let’s continue praying for America to continue forward on this.

What do you think and has the Lord spoken to you today?

Join with me on Thursdays to fast and pray for America.

Inside Israel

SHUK

The Shuk in Jerusalem

Greetings dear sisters and brothers,

May this letter be an encouragement to you, and ALL GLORY to God Almighty, Who created the heavens and the earth, and His One and only Messiah and Son Jesus, Yeshua, Who saved us and brought us to our Father.  May He be praised with our whole hearts and may we tell of all of His marvelous works.  May we sing praises to His Name.

“To the Chief Musician. To the tune of “Death of the Son.” A Psalm of David. “

“I will praise You, O Lord, with my whole heart; I will tell of all Your marvelous works. I will be glad and rejoice in You; I will sing praise to Your name, O Most High.” (PSALM  9:1-2)

YES, LORD.

What perfect timing.  I will explain.

My husband and I took the train to the bus last night and then walked through a park to our health clinic.  We had a question for the skin doctor and the way to get it answered is to run up to the clinic and push your way in. Really!

It is NOT our nature, but after years of NOT getting urgent questions answered we have learned that sometimes we need to step out of our comfort zone.  The train was quite crowded for that hour and as we are only one stop from Mount Herzl (housing our national military and state cemetery) and two stops from Yad v’shem (the Holocaust memorial) and The World Zionist Museum, we were in for a surprising sight.  It is the time to remember “the dead sons.”

But let me back up a bit in the time line and remind you of a few of the events of the past several weeks:

1)  We are in the midst of “the Friday wars” on the Gaza border…week 3 has past and 4 is coming up,

2) Iran has blamed the Allied attack on Syrian chemical weapons base directly on Israel and has promised to retaliate directly and strongly soon.  We are preparing).

3) A week ago we commemorated Holocaust Remembrance day meaning that 4) beginning with the siren at 8 PM tonight we begin our Memorial day in remembrance of Israel’s fallen soldiers and terror victims.

AND 4) TOMORROW night at 8 the ceremony changes from grief to joy as we begin celebrations for our 70th year of Independence.

IT IS AN EMOTIONAL COUPLE OF WEEKS.

So, setting the ‘backdrop’, I will return to our train ride.

We were surprised by the crowds, but as we approached the next stop, we began to understand.  Hundreds of thousands of people, waves of people were drifting like clouds into the national cemetery and into the Zionist museum area adjacent to it.

I suddenly remembered that several years ago they decided to designate a separate family time BEFORE the official ceremonies which begin tonight.  A more personal time during the laying of the flags on the graves.  It just took us both by surprise, the vast numbers of people!

So many teenagers, toddlers, babies in arms and strollers, young and old and in between. All of them lost someone or many someones. Mothers and Fathers, Sisters and Brothers, Spouses, Friends and Children. It was hard to see such a huge crowd and understand that each one had a loved one ripped from them through war.

“To the Chief Musician. To the tune of “Death of the Son.” A Psalm of David. “ They were surrounded as if by shepherds for at least a kilometer or more by armed soldiers protecting them.  Ambulances stood by, so many and yet so private, each one alone in his grief.

“It has begun,” I said to myself.

It is tangible…you can feel it, like a heavy mantle of grief. A thick cloud descending and being spread upon us all, to share, to help carry the weight. Because there has been a price to pay and it is dear, and so we share it as families do.  And yet, GOD IS present. God knows and sees and I pray for an opportunity to share His great gift of comfort with some.

There IS something different’ this year.  “What is it Lord?”

I can guess, but I am not sure.  70 is mature.  My daughter and I recalled the wonder with which we participated in the 50th Birthday celebrations of Israel.  When we came Israel was 46. We can all relate to these numbers in terms of human life.

Which is why this year’s Holocaust Memorial Day was particularly poignant.  Sadly we had a stomach virus and I could not watch the ceremonies but we are all aware that the survivors are coming to the end of their journey.  And that the telling the stories is passing on to their descendants.

Kala Zeltzer, now 94 years old, whom I’ve asked for prayer often over the years, left a book on my desk at work for me.  When I opened it, I wept.  FINALLY she had it.  The story of her life with photos. She had worked on this book for years with volunteer writers who sit with the survivors and sift through the unbelievable stories to re-construct a testimony.  And here was Kala’s life and in her shaky hand she inscribed my name. What a gift!

With the dramatic rise of anti-Semitism again, I have been asking The Lord to awaken me to things that I might be dull to and should know, and He is faithful.  There has been a grouping together of genocides and slaughters and a blending of the Holocaust under the mantle of the world’s atrocities as if it is no different.

I was thinking, “Well, perhaps it isn’t really. All flesh is one and man’s wickedness toward others is abominable in all places.”

I didn’t understand until suddenly I felt Him open a window in my heart. I pray that I can translate this into words.  The Holocaust was unique in this way:  It was personal and with calculated purpose – face to face.  Most genocide is a huge explosive, wicked hatred.  It is faceless.  People do not see who they kill or care who they kill.  They hate a group or want a territory or just explode.

In the Holocaust, it was a personal, systematic RAPE of each individual.  They recorded each name, address, personal information, possessions. Methodically and purposefully, they stripped each individual of their name, replaced it with a branded number, stripped them of their clothes, looked into their eyes and cut off their hair, stroked them and took their possessions and then recorded each one, herded them into gas chambers, and rendered them to ashes. BUT IT WAS ABOUT GOD, who had CREATED us from the dust.  IT WAS THE GOD OF THE JEWS WHOSE PLAN AND PURPOSE THEY SOUGHT TO DERAIL ON THE TRAINS TO THE CAMPS.  BUT THEY COULD NOT OVERTHROW GOD’S PLAN!

And SUDDENLY I saw that NO! It is NOT pride to say that the Holocaust stands alone among destructions.  It stands with each act taken by Satan to destroy the plan of God.  If the enemy COULD destroy God’s plans and purposes then woe unto us BUT HE IS FAITHFUL WHO PROMISED.

The enemy tried to abort the first coming of Messiah and could not. So he tries to abort His second coming to this people and the fulfillment of His mercy.  I look at 2 Kings 18– the classic tactics of the enemy through the ages:

22 But if you say to me, ‘We trust in the Lord our God,’ is it not He whose high places and whose altars Hezekiah has taken away, and said to Judah and Jerusalem, ‘You shall worship before this altar in Jerusalem’? ”…25 Have I now come up without the Lord against this place to destroy it? The Lord said to me, ‘Go up against this land, and destroy it.’”… 32 until I come and take you away to a land like your own landa land of grain and new wine, a land of bread and vineyards, a land of olive groves and honey, that you may live and not die. But do not listen to Hezekiah, lest he persuade you, saying, “The Lord will deliver us.” 33 Has any of the gods of the nations at all delivered its land from the hand of the king of Assyria?…”

If you have NOT read 2 Kings 18 for a while, it may be a good time to refresh your memory.

Holocaust Memorial day came again in Israel and again Israel stood silent as the siren sounded that dreadful sound.  I took my Grandson out on our merepesset(balcony) to stand at attention and see how it all stops.  They (our daughter’s family) left Israel when he was 8 and now he is 14.

SO, we were ALL pretty FREAKED OUT today while I was sitting and waiting for an x-ray. Suddenly the air raid siren sounded!  EVERYONE jumped up to run for shelter until a woman yelled, ‘No no! I’m sorry!  It was my facebook page!  Someone posted a video of Holocaust Memorial day here and they recorded the siren. I’m sorry.”

A collective sigh of relief, but not very deep as we are aware that the hour is volatile.

On Yom h’Sho’ar,  there is no regular television but the channels that are open, show incredible movies, ones that I never heard of, from all countries, movies similar to Schindler’s List and The Hiding Place.  Other stations show life stories and interviews with survivors or show a still of a memorial flame.  There are no advertisements.

And so it is now.

In a few moments, at 8 PM, the terrible siren will again cry through the sky and all will stop. Tomorrow morning at 11 it will sound for 2 minutes.  It is intense.  I wish that you could experience it.

Again, our television has stopped and the photos of soldiers and terror victims are being flashed on the screen with their dates of birth and date and place of death.  Movies will show intense, depressing, hero inspiring and prayer inspiring movies.  The radio is a treasure trove of first hand testimonies of what eyes have seen in the defense of this country that GOD promised to our people, and God is often spoken about for He indeed has been present.

The siren has sounded now and the cloak of indescribable feelings has again become palpable.  We live in this today, knowing that the tomorrows directly ahead of us are highly volatile.  But today THIS is our path and purpose and tomorrow night, Lord willing, the cloud will rise and the celebrations of the 70th year will begin.

Do you remember that we live so close to Mount Herzl that we can hear the ceremonies from outside and watch the fireworks from our merepesset?

In these days when the tendency is toward burn out and growing cold, may we run into His Arms and press in for more of Him.  Thank you for taking time to read this.  It is written with love and prayer.

Your sister J

“Planning + Preparation = Survival” is FREE on Amazon Today

Planning = Prep1

My book, Planning + Preparation = Survival, is FREE on Amazon today through Sunday.

Amazon book description:

WARNING: This book is written by a Christian author who believes Christian principles and prophecy can save lives. It is not just another “doomsday prepper” publication, telling you to buy land in Idaho and build a fortress there for you and your family. The author actually believes Psalm 91 declares the truths about the shelter we all need to seek now.

What is the #1 statement spoken by individuals during large catastrophes?

“I didn’t think this would ever happen to me.”

Why do they say this?

They thought catastrophes always happened to someone else, never to them. But if it did happen, they believed the government would arrive on the scene and rescue them before their cups of coffee turned cold.

If this is your present thinking, then allow me to say one word to smash your ideas to smithereens: Katrina. Yes, Hurricane Katrina, the watershed event when all should have learned to never again place our faith in governments to rescue us and our families from catastrophes.

“Planning + Preparation = Survival” is a new revision of the 2013 edition. It’s still a no-nonsense book written to show Christians how to pray, plan, and prepare ourselves, our families, and our communities for possible natural and terrorist catastrophes in the near future.

This book should be a required reading for all Christians, especially those who live in the cities of San Diego, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Oakland, Portland, and Seattle.

Available on Amazon for Kindles and Kindle apps.
