Prayers for Businessmen (5/28/2019)

Most businessmen have various insurance policies. Health insurance. Life insurance. Auto insurance. Home insurance. And so forth. All of these are for those “just in case” happenings in our lives.

Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven where neither moth nor rust destroys, and thieves do not break in and steal. (Matthew 6:19-20)

Most of us look at the word treasure in this verse and we assume that it means a heavenly reward, something that we will receive when we die and go to heaven. But that’s not what the Greek word thēsauros means at all. The word actually means a safety deposit box where we place our valuables until we need them.

How do we lay up treasures in heaven?

Then Jesus, looking at him, loved him, and said to him, “One thing you lack: Go your way, sell whatever you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, take up the cross, and follow Me.” (Mark 10:21)

The way to get treasure in heaven is to give to the poor while following Jesus. Then, when unexpected downturns or events happen to our business or lives, we can make withdrawals from our heavenly accounts.

And remember this: God’s rate of return is many times better than earthly savings accounts.

My prayer today:

Lord, help us businessmen to deny ourselves, take up our crosses and follow You in every area of our lives and businesses. (Based on Matthew 16:24)

Prayers for Businessmen (5/21/2019)

If you’re working in the marketplace, and you’re not the owner or the owner’s son, you’ll have managers supervising your work. Some of the managers will be good and a few might be bad. Yet even so, the Bible is clear on how we should treat all managers −good and bad:

Servants, obey your earthly masters with fear and trembling with a sincere heart, as you would Christ, not with eye service as men-pleasers, but as the servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart, with good will doing service as to the Lord, and not to men. (Ephesians 6:5-7)

Paul reiterated these same instruction in Colossians 3:22, 1 Timothy 6:1, and Titus 2:9, but Peter took it a step further:

Servants, be submissive to your masters with all respect, not only to those who are good and gentle, but also to those who are unreasonable. (1 Peter 2:18 NASB)

Why should we honor our managers with loyalty and good service?

Knowing that whatever good anyone does, this he will receive back from the Lord, whether he is a bondservant or is free. (Ephesians 6:8)

If we are hoping to serve the Lord and have Him prosper us, we need to be loyal and honor all of our managers. If we struggle with any of our managers, we need to ask the Holy Spirit to help us. This is His job as our Helper.

But if for whatever reasons, we aren’t able to honor a manager or a company, then maybe we should resign and look for employment elsewhere.

My prayer today:

Lord, help us businessmen to love the managers who supervise us with Your love, the love You revealed to us on the cross.

Join us on Tuesdays to fast and pray for American men in the marketplace.

Shouldn’t you download “Common Sense 2017” today? It’s Free!

common-sense-2017

Today is the beginning of a new presidency for America, which is drastically different than our last one. Have you scratched your head and wondered how America arrived at this point in history where a businessman has now become the Chief Executive, taking over for a history making politician? If so, maybe you should download my new book,  Common Sense 2017, which is free on Amazon today through Sunday.

Amazon Book Description:

“A long habit of not thinking a thing wrong, gives it a superficial appearance of being right, and raises at first a formidable outcry in defense of custom. But the tumult soon subsides. Time makes more converts than reason.” (Thomas Paine,  Common Sense, 1775)

Is it common sense to suggest God was involved in the 2016 Presidential election? If He were involved, couldn’t He have chosen a better man than Donald Trump to be the 45th President of the United States?

Is it common sense to think God will overlook the eight years of ill-treatment by President Obama and his administration against His chosen nation − Israel?

Is it common sense to expect good economic times during President Trump’s term in the Whitehouse?

Is it common sense to believe President Obama will sit quietly on the sidelines for four years?

Is it common sense for us to just sit back and take it easy over the next four years?

The common sense answers to all these questions are contained in Common Sense 2017.

Common Sense 2017 is a common sense approach to what is presently happening in America, looking at our yesterdays through the lens of the Bible and then forward to our tomorrows through the eyes of the Holy Spirit. Common Sense 2017 forces us to take off our rose-colored glasses and accurately discern our times.

The author of Common Sense 2017 is Larry Nevenhoven, who has authored and published thirteen other Amazon eBooks, including Common Sense 2016. It is Nevenhoven’s most urgent call for action for today’s Christians.

Fifty percent of the royalties earned for this book will be donated to help the poor and helpless.

64 pages    Author: Larry Nevenhoven    Publisher: LarryWho

Kindle eBook: $2.99

Available on Amazon for Kindle and Kindle Apps.

Thursday’s Prayers for America (3/10/2016)

As a Christian car salesman at a General Motors/Toyota dealership in Iowa, many of my Christian friends stopped to see me when they were ready to buy a new car. Now, can you guess how many of them purchased new cars from me? None. Zero. Zilch.

The usual scenario would go something like this:

The husband and wife would stop by the dealership. I would show them the cars, they would choose one. I then would give them every possible discount and rebate the dealership would allow me to offer them on a new car. When I asked them if they were ready to sign the order, they invariably said, “We need to pray about this.”

The next day I would see them driving a competitor’s new car.

I would call them up and ask why they bought from my competitor instead of me. The usual answer: “Your competitor beat your deal by $50.”

This happened so often that I sought the Lord in prayer. “Lord, why are You telling my Christian friends to buy from a pagan salesman, rather than from me? Don’t I always pay tithes and offerings on my commissions? What does the pagan salesmen give You?”

In a clear voice, I felt the Lord said to my heart, “They never asked Me and I never told them to buy from your competitor.”

My prayer today:

Lord, I pray that American believers – as they have opportunity – do good to everyone, but especially to those who are of the family of God so that at just the right time they will reap a harvest of blessings. (Based on Galatians 6:9-10)

What do you think and has the Lord spoken to you today?

Join with me on Thursdays to fast and pray for America.

My Sales Career: If Only… (Part 1)

GFA Banner 3

(click on above)

I spent many years selling pharmaceuticals, construction equipment, health and beauty aids, stocks and bonds, cars, real estate, advertising, and whatever. There were great days in my sales career and a few horrendous ones. My sales philosophy agreed with Sophie Tucker who said, “I have been rich and I have been poor − and believe me, rich is better.”

But throughout my whole sales career, one nagging thought bothered me over and over again: “If only I totally believed in my product. If only…”

No doubt, there are wonderful companies selling great products here in America. I do not mean to belittle any of them because my nagging problem was mine and mine alone. It had nothing to do with the business world.

You see, I wanted to sell a hybrid Cadillac-Mercedes-Rolls Royce-DeBeers-Tiffany product with Toyota/Honda backed service for $99 or three easy payments of $33 or even twelve payments of $8.25.

Now you understand my dilemma of unreal expectations in a real world.

Then, I met a man named Jesus who smashed to smithereens all of my business and sales concepts. He taught me to depend on His abilities and not mine. His products and services are much, much better than my expectations ever were in the past.

Okay, you can check on my sales goal of $42,000 to cover the cost of 100 Bridge of Hope unsponsored children here. My business/sales plan is to fast and pray and then follow the Lord’s leading. As far as a backup plan, I have none.

Just so you know: the anonymous $100 came from Carol and me.

Thus, the program begins today for me.

I will post updates from time to time.

(Continued in Part 2)
