Tuesday’s Prayers for Prisoners (8/30/2016)

If Jesus continues to tarry in His return to earth, we will all die and then appear before the Judgment Seat of Christ. In that appearance, we will receive our legacy (or rewards) from Jesus. What we receive is what we will get for all of eternity. There are no second chances or do overs for us believers.

So, if you’re satisfied, then “pip, pip, cheerio” and continue on your merry way.

But I’m not satisfied.

And even more than that, I fear the Judgment Seat of Christ.

You see, I know I haven’t done enough for the 4.4 billion people of Asia, ninety percent of whom do not know Jesus and forty percent have never heard His name.

What will I answer when Jesus asks, “Larry, why didn’t you do more for Asia? Don’t you love Me?”

I would hate to have those words haunting me over and over throughout eternity.

My prayer today:

Lord, forgive us American believers for our cold love and help us to remember the prisoners held hostage by the kingdom of darkness in Asia as though in prison with them. (Based on Hebrews 13:3)

Join with me on Tuesdays to fast and pray for prisoners in Asia, according to Hebrews 13:3.

Why Asia?

1. 4.4 billion people live in Asia.

2.. 85.4% of world’s unevangelized people live in Asia. (Unevangelized means they may have heard the gospel but have no understanding on how to respond.)

3. The world’s three largest non-Christian religions – Muslim, Hindu, and Buddhists – are based in Asia.

4. Of the 37 countries of the world that are less than 10% Christian, 32 are in Asia. Of the 14 countries, that are less than 2% Christian, 12 are in Asia.

5. 600 million people live in abject poverty in the slums of Asia.

6. 85-90% of unreached people live in Asia. (Unreached means that they have never heard the name of Jesus.) (Operation World: The Definitive Prayer Guide to Every Nation)

Qatar: 2.1 million people (87.4% Muslim and 6.3% Christian) Persecution Level: Severe

Qataris are the richest people in the world, thanks to oil and gas revenues. The Thani family has ruled for 150 years, and in 2013 the former emir transferred power to his son.

Life for Christians:
Though conversion from Islam is a capital offense, no one has been punished for apostasy. However, Christian converts and Christian migrant workers face constant pressure. The government allowed the construction of “Church City,” where thousands of foreign Christians worship. No Christian symbols are allowed in advertising or other areas visible to the public. (Voice of Martyrs)

90% of Qatar’s population of about two million is made up of migrant laborers. The Qataris (10%) enjoy the highest GDP per capita in the world. Expatriates and migrant workers are generally perceived and treated by Qataris as slaves. Forced labor and human trafficking are major problems. Working conditions for migrant workers can be inhumane and dangerous; they face underpayment, domestic violence, sexual abuse and lack proper living conditions. It is not uncommon for them to die at their work place. (Open Doors)

My prayer for today:

Lord, I pray that You open up the eyes of the Qatari people so that they realize how wretched, pitiable, poor, blind, and naked they are without You. (Based on Revelation 3:17)

Join with me on Tuesdays to fast and pray for prisoners in Asia, according to Hebrews 13:3.

Uzbekistan: 30.9 million people (82.8% Muslim and 2.1% Christian) Persecution Level: Severe

Uzbekistan is the most populous Central Asian country and has the largest military. The country’s political system is highly authoritarian and its use of torture is “systematic.”

Life for Christians:
Christians are branded as “extremists” by the government, and they face massive fines, detention, and arrest for “illegal religious activity.” Unregistered religious meetings are raided. State-controlled media encourages prejudices against minority religious groups. (Voice of the Martyrs)

My prayer today:

Lord, raise up laborers for Your harvest in Uzbekistan who are willing to deny themselves, pick up their cross daily, and follow You, trusting that Your blood and their testimonies will overcome Satan, even if they are faced with death. (Based on Luke 9:23 and Revelation 12:11)

Tuesday’s Prayers for Prisoners (4/19/20160

Yemen: 26.5 million people (Islam 99.6% and Christianity .2%) Persecution Level: Severe

Poverty-stricken Yemen continues to suffer from an internal conflict that began in 2011. Much of the population lives in fear of violence and lacks access to food and medical care.

Life for Christians:
Persecution for Christian converts is intense, coming from family, community and the government. Several known converts were killed last year. It is illegal to proselytize Muslims, and non-Muslims are deeply discriminated against. There are believed to be a few thousand secret believers in the indigenous church. (Voice of the Martyrs)

The influence of Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) and IS appears to be growing further; AQAP recently expanded its territorial control in Southern Yemen. Meanwhile, Yemen is facing a dire humanitarian crisis. Eighty percent of the population is in need of some form of humanitarian assistance, and almost half of the population is food insecure, making Yemen’s hunger crisis one of the worst in the world. (Open Doors)

My prayer today:

Lord, out of the few thousand believers in Yemen, raise up laborers for the harvest who believe the Lord can save the nation from the kingdom of darkness whether You use many or just a few. (Based on Luke 10:2 and  1 Samuel 14:6)

Join with me on Tuesdays to fast and pray for prisoners in Asia, according to Hebrews 13:3.

Pakistan: 199 million people (Islam 98.9% and Christianity .7%) Persecution Level: Extreme

Christians in Pakistan are often marginalized. They have few educational opportunities, and many live in poverty. In fact, 40% of Pakistani Christians live in slave-like conditions to Muslim businesses and are considered dogs. They are beaten, raped, abducted and murdered, but the government rarely investigates or brings their attackers to justice. Suicide bombers have targeted several churches, killing and wounding hundreds. The county’s blasphemy laws are used to target Christians, and many have been killed as a result of accusations. These blasphemy laws are so open-ended that any Muslim can accuse a Christian of speaking a blasphemy against the Koran or Mohammed and are believed by the courts. (Voice of Martyrs)

My prayer today:

Lord, help us to remember those believers who are kidnapped, abducted, imprisoned, raped, and murdered in Pakistan as though in the prison-like conditions with them. Break our hearts Lord as Your heart is broken for them.

Join with me on Tuesdays to fast and pray for prisoners in Asia, according to Hebrews 13:3.

Afghanistan: 33.3 million people (99.8% Islam and .1% Christianity) Persecution Level: Extreme

The Taliban has regained strength since its overthrow in 2001, increasing its control particularly in the south and east. The country’s economy relies heavily on the drug trade as well as foreign aid.

Life for Christians:
Afghan believers must hide their faith and cannot worship openly. Many have left the country, becoming refugees, in order to practice their faith. Believers gather in homes or other small group venues. Proselytizing is strictly forbidden by the Quran and Sharia law. Kidnapping, torture and beatings are routinely employed to force Christians to renounce their faith. (The Voice of the Martyrs)

Afghanistan remains one of the most corrupt countries in the world. It has a life expectancy of 44 and only 12% of women are literate. None of those problems will be solved in just a few years. “This is a developing country, starting from a very low base, with shooting attached,” said one western official. (The Guardian)

My prayer today:

Lord, raise up laborers for Afghanistan who are willing to go and proclaim, “The kingdom of heaven is at hand,” and who are also anointed to heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse lepers, and cast out demons. (Based on Matthew 10:7-8)

Iran: 77.5 million people (98.7% Islam and .8% Christianity) Persecution Level: Extreme

Islamic clerics assumed power under the ayatollah in 1979. The nation became an Islamic republic under Shia Islam. Today, the country is divided between moderates and hardliners.
Iran remains one of the most difficult nations in the world in which to be a Christian. Since President Hassan Rouhani took office in August 2013, the number of individuals in prison because of their beliefs has increased, and Christians are especially targeted. Over the past year, Iranian authorities have raided church services, threatened church members and arrested and imprisoned worshipers and church leaders, particularly Christian converts from Islam. Currently, there are approximately 90 Christians either in prison or awaiting trial. (The Voice of the Martyrs)

My prayer today — basically taken from the above two minute video:

Lord, I pray to You, the Lord of the Harvest, to raise up thousands of laborers for Your harvest fields in Iran. (Based on Luke 10:2 and Luke 1:37)

Iraq: 35.8 million people (95.9% Muslim and 1.6% Christian)…Persecution Level: Extreme

Iraq is a complicated mixture of severe persecution and increased freedom for believers and evangelism. Islamic extremists have targeted Christian leaders, churches and businesses. Though Islam is the official religion, the constitution guarantees “full religious rights of all individuals.” Other laws, however, restrict the freedom to change religions. To register, a church must have 500 members and the approval of the Council of Iraqi Churches. Between 2003 and 2014, about half the Christian population fled the country. With the advance of IS into Iraq in 2014, many of the remaining Christians have been displaced or have fled. When the Islamic State (IS) invaded Mosul, Iraq’s second-largest city, in June 2014, they issued an ultimatum to the estimated 35,000 Christians there, telling them to convert, pay a high tax, leave or be killed. Nearly all fled. (Voice of the Martyrs)

My prayer today:

Lord, I pray to You, the Lord of the Harvest, to raise up thousands of laborers for Your harvest fields in Iraq because nothing is impossible for You. (Based on Luke 10:2 and Luke 1:37)

Tuesday’s Prayers for Prisoners (3/15/2016)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-C23vIl0dKw

The above video (7 minutes and 20 seconds) relates the testimony of Fatima of Suadi Arabia. She was a mid-20’s, disillusioned, Muslim girl who was told by her friends that the Bible often referenced Muhammad. So, she spent hours searching the Bible looking for verses about the Muslim prophet, but found none. But what she did find was the love of Jesus Christ and became a Christian.

Fatima then became a blogger to share her love of Jesus with her countrymen. On one blog, she told how much Jesus loved the Saudia people. One person commented: “You worship a crucified, cursed Lord. We are not honored by Saudia Arabian Christians. If I had you in my hands right now, I would slaughter you twice.”

Fatima replied to the angry commenter: “May the Lord Jesus guide you and enlighten your heart…I am to death a Christian.”

Fatima’s testimony forced me to ask myself: “Am I willing to risk everything for Jesus?”

Saudi Arabia: 30.77 million people (92.4% Muslim and 5.4% Christian)

Saudi Arabia is one of the most oppressive nations in the world for Christians. Religious freedom is nonexistent, and leaving Islam is punishable by death. (Voice of the Martyrs)

My prayer today:

Lord, nothing is impossible for You. So, I ask You, the Lord of the Harvest, to raise up thousands of laborers for the harvest in Saudi Arabia to take Fatima’s place. (Based on Luke 1:37 and Luke 10:2)

Do you ever scratch your head and wonder: “Is fasting for today? Or is it an outdated dinosaur stuck in the swamps of times long since forgotten?”

Behold, you fast only to quarrel and to fight and to hit with a wicked fist. Fasting like yours this day will not make your voice to be heard on high. (Isaiah 58:4)

In the first few verses of Isaiah 58, the Lord tells the people of Israel they are fasting with the wrong attitudes. Then, in verse 4, He tells them their collective voice will not be heard on high because of these attitudes.

Does this mean the Lord is hard of hearing unless we fast properly?

to the intent that now the manifold wisdom of God might be made known by the church to the principalities and powers in the heavenly places (Ephesians 3:10)

God is not hard of hearing. He hears all of our prayers.

But yet, our prayer battles are not against flesh and blood, or even against God, but instead, our prayer battles are against principalities, powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.

Fasting is a spiritual warfare weapon that the church must use to set cities, nations, and continents free from Satan and his kingdom of darkness.

My prayer for today:

Lord, I pray that You raise up a church in America that is willing to fast for Asia, so the bonds of wickedness will be loosed, heavy burdens will be removed, the oppressed will be set free, and You break every yoke of bondage in Asia. So that the people of Asia will know You and the power of Your resurrection and the fellowship of Your suffering, being conformed to Your death. (Based on Isaiah 58:6 and Philippians 3:10)
